After suffering a shoulder injury, Deshaun Watson left the Baltimore Ravens dealing with a setback. Soon after, tight end David Njoku experienced a frightening burn accident while trying to light a fire pit at his residence.
The severity of Njoku’s injury was initially uncertain, leading to his placement on the questionable list for Week 4. Despite this, he did return to play against the Baltimore Ravens that week, but he kept his face hidden both before and after the match. Later on, Njoku shared images of his burn injuries and provided an intriguing reason for sharing these distressing photos.

Njoku was seen wearing a tan fur trench coat with a flesh-colored mask when he made his first public appearance after the injury. Though the 27-year-old didn’t reveal the face even while practicing with the Browns squad prior to the match against the Browns, he posted some images of his burned face in his recent Instagram post on Wednesday, captioned “Legacy”.

“I’ve been getting a lot of messages from other burn victims and nurses that have burn victims, and they were telling me how everybody feels embarrassed to show whatever. So I wanted just to come out forth and show myself so everyone feels a little bit better about themselves. End of the day, things heal.”
Meanwhile, the NFL star also revealed that the accident was so scary that he could have lost his eyes. Besides recovering from the scare, he also launched a merchandise brand “Withstand” to raise funds for the American Burn Association.
Browns TE played despite the burns
Njoku headed to his NFL career after getting drafted by Baltimore in 2017 and played 83 games for them till now. He recorded 10 catches for 92 yards before heading to the week 4 match and ststarting each of them. Following the facial burns, the speculation about his presence against the Ravens’ match was unclear.
However, he played at the end, and despite Cleveland’s 28-3 loss in the match, the former first-round draft pick recorded six catches for 46 yards, to sum up 16 passes for 138 yards throughout four games. Njoku missed three practices this week, but he was present in the practice session on Friday.
