Manchester United is trying to build a team that can challenge Manchester City and other Premier League giants this coming season. United fell short last season, only settling for the Carabao Cup after a comfortable 2-0 win over Newcastle in the final. This has made the club invest in some talents, including ball-playing goalkeeper Andre Onana.
While United struggled to compete on all fronts, City rather comfortably completed the treble for the first time in the club’s history. Much of City’s success over the past few years has been down to Pep’s playing structure. The Spanish manager has always identified players that would fit into his philosophy, which is why City has arguably been the best team in England for the past six years.
United needs to at least get the right players if they want to challenge City for the title this season, and they seem to be going in the right direction with Andre Onana and the other players they’ve signed so far.
Andre Onana already fed up with Harry Maguire’s defense
United announced Andre Onana’s signing from Inter Milan after releasing David de Gea following the expiration of his contract, much to the delight of many United fans. It is generally believed that Andre Onana is one of the best ball-playing goalkeepers in modern football, and the Cameroonian’s ability to link up plays with outfield players could be pivotal to the team’s success in the coming years.
The goalkeeper made his debut against Real Madrid. Although he conceded two goals, his performance was generally praised by the club fans, especially how he distributed the ball from the back. Andre Onana played his second pre-season game for United in a second-half showing against Borussia Dortmund earlier today. He was visibly furious with Harry Maguire after the English defender failed to track down an opposition attacker.

Harry Maguire remains the most expensive defender in the world after United forked out over €85 million to secure his services from Leicester City in 2019. The error-prone defender has faced much criticism from United fans for his lackluster performances. He was relegated to the club’s fifth-choice defender last season, and United are looking to potentially move him on this summer if the right offer arrives.

According to The Guardian, the Red Devils reportedly rejected a £20 million bid from West Ham United for Harry last week. The bid was reportedly lower than United’s valuation of the player. Whether to West Ham or another team, Harry Maguire is running out of time at United and will be sold soon.
