While struggling with the offense, the New York Jets defense was always the team’s ray of hope in any game. Meanwhile, to battle against the high-flying Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Jets team was forced to step onto the MetLife Stadium without their key defensive player, Sauce Gardner.
Gardner injured himself before the Jet’s showdown against the Eagles, leading him to enjoy Robert Saleh’s team’s upset 20-14 win over the Eagles in their Week 6 game from the sidelines.
Sauce Gardner injury update
In the Jets most recent injury report before their Week 6 game, Sauce Gardner collected a painful mention, being questionable for having an illness. Until then, the cause of his injury was unknown. Later that day, the team revealed that the cornerback had suffered a concussion, forcing them to withdraw him from the high-stakes game.
The news was devastating for Jets fans before the game since, in addition to Gardner, the Jets had to make room for defensive backs D.J. Reed, Branded Echols, and Justin Hardee. Gardner had missed his first game since being picked by the Jets in the 2022 season. He recorded 51 solo tackles, 24 assists and 2 interceptions in 17 games last season.
Without their AP Defensive Rookie of the Year from the previous season, the Jets’ performance was expected to be harder and to end another game without a win because they had enough tools to tackle the Jalen Hurts-led offense.
However, the outcome was completely different, giving the Jets’ defense yet another incredible night to be proud of. As a result, after the game, the Jets head coach did not hold back when making jokes about the quarterbacks in the league that they had faced this season.
Meanwhile, amid the victory, concern has already arisen regarding Sauce Gardner’s possibility of playing in the next game. Till now, no news is made public regarding his availability for their Week 6 game.
Gardner claps back at A. J. Brown
Sauce Gardner posted a tweet on the social networking platform that was once known as Twitter, following the announcement of his concussion and subsequent fall in injury status.
“I feel perfectly fine. That’s the crazy part about it,” his status read.
Before the Jets vs. Eagles battle, A.J. Brown responded to the Jets’s second-year cornerback’s injury news with a meme that targeted his statement. Fortunately, the Jets win not only provided an opportunity for Robert Saleh to enjoy first win over the Eagles, but also provided some space for Gardner to respond to Brown’s taunting post.
The Jets’ defensive hero posted in X, featuring the same meme that Brown used for him, captioning it, “”That getback a mf”.
The Eagles entered the stadium with their heads held high, but they departed the field with their heads bowed, allowing the Jets to advance to 3-3. Gardner’s absence did not deter the Jets, but even with A.J. Brown present, the Eagles could not win.
