With a comfortable 6-20 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Week 6, the Detroit Lions were able to mark the day, securing the No. 1 seed in the NFC. However, going into their showdown in Week 6, David Montgomery’s club was depleted at the running back position, making the game difficult.
Unfortunately, in spite of the victory, the night added a nightmare for the team’s running back room as they had to carry on their play without David due to his horrific injury.
David Montgomery injury update
Following a 19-yard gain and apparent ball drop by Jared Goff during a tackle, David Montgomery left the Lions vs. Bucs game in the second quarter due to an injury. It appeared that his injury was quite severe because he was seen leaving the field slowly and using his strength.
Head coach of the Lions Dan Campbell and other staff members checked on Montgomery before grating him to head to the locker room. The supporters were excited to see him return to the field and hear about his injury status. The injury to David Montgomery was initially thought to be a shoulder injury, but later on, his team revealed that it was actually a rib injury.
The receiver did not return in the second quarter and midway through the third quarter, the Lions ruled him out for the rest of the game.
After the game, the head coach confirmed Montgomery’s initial X-rays were negative. Reportedly, the running back is now set to undergo more tests on Monday to determine the intensity of his injury.
The Lion’s first-year running back has played a vital role in all the team’s wins. The former Chicago Bears player tossed 51 carries for 230 yards and four rushing touchdowns in his team’s last two wins.
Following David Montgomery’s exit from the game, the Lions faced the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with running back Craig Reynolds, their third-string option.
Lions now tied with 5-1 record
The NFL’s sixth week witnessed various ups and downs in the standings of the teams in their respective divisions. Following their victory over the Bucs, the Lions managed to put themselves in a 5-1 position. They now share the top record in the entire National Football League with the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs following their victory.
Philadelphia Eagles’ loss to the New York Jets and the San Francisco 49ers’ loss to the Cleveland Browns placed them 5-1 after dropping their last games.
After losing to the reigning Super Bowl champion by one point in their season opener, the Lions quickly turned things around and have remained undefeated since Week 1. After the team’s victory over the Bucs, the head coach expressed his pleasure over ending his team’s losing run. Additionally, Campbell disclosed that his team is now competing to secure the top spot in the NFC North division.
“Listen, I’m happy we’re winning, and I love where we’re at right now. Right now, it’s about trying to find a way to finish first in this (NFC North) division, and right now, we’re in a pretty good spot. We’ve got a lot of football left, but I’m proud of our guys.”
Meanwhile, David Montgomery’s team is now scheduled to battle the Baltimore Ravens, the No. 1 seed in the AFC North.
