Sergio Perez has been getting a lot of criticism for his ultimate failure to cope with his all-rounder partner, Max Verstappen. Throughout the season, he remained a shadow of Verstappen, which resulted in him losing his confidence slowly.

2017 Belgium GP picture sparks Perez exit speculation
Sergio Perez started his F1 career as early as 2011 and has been in the industry for a longer period than Max Verstappen. However, his spark as a Red Bull driver diminished as Mad Max entered the game.
Verstappen, with his outstanding achievements, soon became the star of the show. Immense pressure was then put on Checo to be on the same level as Verstappen; however, he failed to live up to expectations. Perez’s performance got worse with recurring incidents at every race.
Many former ex-drivers stated that his performance, despite being more experienced than the three-time World Champion, deteriorated as he was put under constant pressure to deliver an unreal performance, as nobody could come closer to the Hulk of the Industry till today. Red Bull’s team boss gave him steady warnings to improve his overall performance.
Soon, many assumed that Perez could no longer face the humiliation and was ready to exit the game. A picture edited on Twitter in 2017 by Belgian GP suggested that Perez would no longer be a member of the group until 2025.
However, all of the rumours were finally sealed as Perez stated in an interview: “I have a contract with Red Bull for 2024 and next year it is important to have a good year, I think I still have a lot to give.”
“I hope and want to stay in Formula 1 for another three or four years.”
Sergio Perez discloses F1 plans
Perez discloses his plans in the industry, putting an end to the retirement rumour. There are five more races left for the 2023 Season to end and Perez wants to give his best, as his reputation was tarnished due to his recurring mistakes in the few previous races.
With Red Bull’s minimum requirement for a driver to be second in the championship standings, Perez still has a lot more to fill up for his lacking, to achieve the team’s goal and make the audience proud.
He is determined to give his last bit of energy till the Season where he cannot perform anymore physically. These five rounds will be the most crucial phase of his entire career.
