The Denver Nuggets recently released a documentary series “Bring It Home” highlighting their epic journey from a tumultuous off season to bringing an end to 47 years of NBA championship draught. The first episode of the docu-series saw Nuggets’ superstar Nikola Jokic pay significant interest to his life outside of the court during the 2022-23 season.
Unbeknownst to many, Jokic devoted his time to pursue a rather unconventional hobby of scouting horses as they embarked on a season where the Nuggets would go on to win their first ever championship in franchise history.
Nuggets docuseries highlights Jokic devotion to scouting
The Nuggets docuseries, “Bring it Home,” shines a spotlight on the unexpected and fascinating aspect of Nikola Jokic’s life which is his unwavering devotion to scouting horses. In basketball, treating the NBA like a 9-to-5 job is uncommon, and Jokic’s unique passion for horses stands out.
The documentary’s first episode takes viewers behind the scenes, revealing that even during the intense pursuit of the 2023 NBA championship, Jokic remained focused on his hobby of rearing horses.
Nikola Jokic was caught scouting horses while sitting on the bench, which is different from the usual basketball-related chats one might expect. The Canadian point guard Jamal Murray sighted Jokic who focused more on his phone, approached him and asked, “Who’s that?”
Jokic responded, “I’m scouting horses.”
Murray then asked again, “You’re scouting? How many do you have?”, to which Jokic responded, “Right now, like, seven, eight … Uhh, 10, 12.”
The docuseries not only captures Jokic’s love for horses but also emphasizes his unique character that rears a special love for animals. It provides fans with a more intimate look at the Serbian big man and the intriguing contrast between his off-court passion and on-court excellence, adding an interesting aspect within the context of the Nuggets’ championship journey.
Jokic remains on the bench vs Clippers
The Denver Nuggets made the unexpected decision to bench their best player, Nikola Jokic, for Tuesday’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Clippers. Nikola Jokic, who is regarded as one of the NBA’s top players, along with other important rotation players like Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Michael Porter Jr., was noticeably absent from the game.
This choice to rest their star center and almost all of their regular rotation was probably made strategically to give bench players more playing time and try different lineup configurations. Despite Nikola Jokić’s absence, the Nuggets utilized the preseason game as an opportunity to gain valuable insights into how their reserve players could contribute, even against a formidable opponent like the Clippers.
The game’s result of a 116-103 loss for the Denver Nuggets may not have held much significance given its preseason nature, but it provided a glimpse into the Nuggets’ willingness to explore their depth and adapt to varying matchups, even with Jokić who won the finals MVP last season and other top players remaining on the bench.
