French senator urges stripping Benzema’s Ballon d’Or over allegations

In conformity with French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin’s remarks on the involvement of Karim Benzema with the terrorist group known as the Muslim Brotherhood, more opposition to the former Real Madrid striker has emerged.

The French Interior Minister has stated categorically that Karim Benzema has ‘a relationship’ with The Muslim Brotherhood, an organization that has been declared a terrorist group by several countries worldwide.

This revelation, or rather accusation by a high-ranking politician such as the French Minister, came as a shock to many in light of Karim Benzema’s status and influence in the football world. Valerie Boyer, senator for Les Republicains, Bouches-du-Rhone, has also weighed in strongly on the matter. The senator has called for harsh measures against Karim Benzema if the allegations against him are confirmed to be true.

He has asked that the Ballon d’Or award conferred on the striker be stripped of him in a lengthy statement;

“If the statements of the Minister of the Interior are true, we must consider sanctions against Karim Benzema,” said Boyer.

He continued further, saying, “An initially symbolic sanction would be to strip the Ballon d’Or from him. Finally, we must request the loss of nationality. We cannot accept that a dual French national, internationally known, can dishonour and even betray his country in this way.”
