Who won most WNBA finals MVP awards? Examining the list after A’ja Wilson claims the glory

The WNBA finals are over with the Las Vegas Aces emerging as champions over the loved New York Liberty. The entire series of games between the Aces and the Liberty were very exciting and delivered a thrilling experience to the fans.

Both the teams played very well but only one could have won the ring. The reigning champions successfully retained their championship and got themselves a second ring. The final MVP award was awarded to A’ja Wilson but let’s take a look at who has most of those.

Revealing the WNBA player with most finals MVP awards

A’ja Wilson delivered an outstanding performance in the series, earning herself the Finals MVP award. However, she is not the player with the most of these accolades. The only player in history to hold the record for the most WNBA Finals MVP awards is Cynthia Cooper, who played for the Houston Comets.

Cooper’s golden years with the Comets spanned from 1997 to 2000, during which they clinched four consecutive WNBA championships, displaying absolute dominance in the league with no other team coming close. Cooper’s exceptional contributions to the team were rightfully recognized with four WNBA Finals MVP awards, one for each of those four seasons. She is a Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players to have ever graced the WNBA.

Aja Wilson bags the glory with Aces going back-to-back

In this season of the WNBA finals, A’ja stepped in the boots of Cooper and delivered and exceptional performance which ultimately made a difference and ended up in a victory and back-to-back championships for the Las Vegas Aces.

Breanna Stewart also gave a very commendable performance but was outperformed by the MVP this time. A’ja had a 24-point game and also collected 16 rebounds in game 4 of the series which made her the first player to have scored at least 20 points and collected 15 rebounds in a Finals-clinching victory.

A record was also broken by Candace Parker of the Aces who got injured earlier in the season and was not able to continue the rest of the season. With Aces winning the ring, Parker became the first WNBA player to have won the championship with three different teams.
