Rookie QB Brian Hoyer reportedly to start after Raiders ruled out QB Jimmy Garoppolo for NFL Week 7 vs Bears

The Las Vegas Raiders said farewell to their veteran quarterback Derek Carr in hopes of having a promising season, entrusting new quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to lead the way. With a current record of 3-3, the team finds itself in the second spot of the AFC West, but they are facing challenges in their pursuit of a playoff run this season.

However, Garoppolo couldn’t contribute to their running game due to his recent back-to-back injuries. Although Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels mentioned earlier this week that the quarterback’s injury wasn’t the worst, it’s uncertain if he’ll be available in the next week. In his absence, the franchise has reportedly favored veteran Brian Hoyer over rookie Aidan O’Connell.

Why did the Raiders rule out Jimmy Garoppolo?

The Raiders have made the decision not to include Garoppolo in the upcoming match against the Chicago Bears due to a back injury he sustained last week. He was unable to participate in the team’s practice this week. The initial report came from Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and it was later confirmed by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and CBS Sports Insider Jonathan Jones through their sources.

In Las Vegas’ 21-17 victory against the New England Patriots in week 6, the signal-caller sustained an injury. Although the injury was initially projected to be minor, it turned out to be more serious. He was subsequently taken to a local hospital and ruled out of the game

The Raiders QB went 14-of-22 for 162 yards and recorded a touchdown along with an interception in the first half. He earlier missed his team’s Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers as well due to a concussion.

Brian Hoyer is reportedly to replace Jimmy Garoppolo

McDaniels recently disclosed that both Hoyer and Aidan have displayed promising performance during practice sessions. However, the latest update indicates that the Raiders have ultimately chosen to rely on Hoyer for the quarterback position in the absence of Garoppolo, via CBS Sports.

Last week, the 38-year-old quarterback shouldered his responsibilities once again, completing 6 out of 10 passes for 102 yards, ultimately leading his team to a 4-point victory over the Patriots. Over his nearly two-decade career, this veteran quarterback has played for eight different teams, achieving a 59.4% completion rate on his passes for a total of 10,770 yards. During this time, he also threw 53 touchdowns and 35 interceptions.

Rookie Aidan took over the spot of Jimmy in the team’s Week 4 loss against the Chargers and completed 39 passes for 238 yards along with a rushing touchdown. He also was intercepted once, sacked seven times while losing two fumbles, and has been inactive from the squad since then.
