24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic has constantly lauded his wife Jelena for her effort in making sure he stays in good shape, which fulfills the phrase that behind every successful man is a woman. Jelena Djokovic was in the stands when Djokovic lifted his first Grand Slam title at the 2008 Australian Open and was in attendance at his triumph at the US Open.
Furthermore, Jelena Djokovic, who is also a philanthropist and director of the Novak Djokovic Foundation, recently graced the cover of Serbia’s leading women’s lifestyle magazine, Lepota & Zdravige.
Who is Novak Djokovic’s wife, Jelena Djokovic?
Jelena and Novak Djokovic knew each other when they were young; they attended the same high school where Djokovic began playing tennis in their home country of Serbia. The couple dated for eight years before getting engaged in 2013 in Monte Carlo, where Djokovic lived at the time.
But before Jelena married Novak, the couple were separated for years because Novak wanted to pursue his dream of being a tennis player and Jelena went to Milan, Italy, to study luxury brand management. But despite the long distance and their busy schedule, the couple found a way to grow their love.
Jelena Djokovic once told Hello! that she had always wanted to go to university abroad, adding that since her parents weren’t able to fund that kind of education, it “entailed me being the very best student in elementary and high school, to win scholarships.”
“Us getting together was like science fiction, almost,” Jelena Djokovic said. “I was a student barely getting by, and he was a very young tennis player who also had no money to spare on expensive trips. We contrived and devised these plans how to meet, how to make our relationship work.”
The significance of education has continued to be a theme in their personal and professional lives. Novak Djokovic once stated that he regretted not going to university, saying: “I really like the idea of educating yourself and being part of a group of students.”
Djokovic added after Jelena gave birth to their second child, “Very happy and proud to welcome our little girl Tara to our home. Jelena and I have been hand in hand on their journey and as a man, I have to send my love and admiration to every single woman out there for going through so much pain and effort to create life, to bring life, and raise a human being … what a blessing to have an opportunity to be a parent! Jelena and Tara are my angels, and Stefan is a proud big brother who wants to take part in baby chores.”
