Drew McIntyre is widely recognized as a highly accomplished and influential superstar on WWE’s current roster. His presence has been greatly appreciated by the fans ever since his return in 2014. His comeback story in WWE is widely regarded as one of the most impressive. Throughout his career, he has had the opportunity to be involved in numerous significant WWE matches.
However, despite such a good run, the future of the Scottish superstar in WWE is still in the dark because his contract is soon going to end and there is no indication of its renewal from the WWE creative side.
Update on Drew McIntyre’s WWE future
The highly anticipated Crown Jewel 2023 Premium Live Event will feature an exciting match between the talented WWE superstar, Drew McIntyre, and Seth Rollins. This match will determine the World Heavyweight Championship title. The match was indeed confirmed last week by WWE Creative. However, there remains some uncertainty surrounding McIntyre’s future in the Stamford-based promotion, as his contract is set to expire soon and there has been no official announcement regarding its potential renewal.
After WrestleMania 39, McIntyre took a break from WWE due to his frustration over his contract renewal. He was waiting for the green signal from the Creative department, which he never got. Despite this collision with the management, Drew McIntyre returned to the Money in The Bank PPV.
In a recent edition of “Wrestling Observer Radio”, reporters Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed the contract situation of McIntyre. They had a long conversation regarding this matter and said that there was still a chance for Drew McIntyre to snatch the title from The Architect. It was confirmed that a new contract signing has still not taken place.
The conversation between Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez on McIntyre’s contract is given below:
Alvarez: “So, is there anything new on Drew McIntyre? Is he resigned? Do we know?”
Meltzer: “I could check, but I do not believe he’s re-signed.”
Alvarez: “Because this is a pretty damn big match for a guy who has not re-signed.”
Meltzer: “Oh no, they were gonna push him. He’s solid through April. There’s time. You can do whatever you want with him through April. So the deal is that his contract was to expire at the end of the year, but because of all the injury time accrued, it’s April. So I mean, they’re not at a point where I would say it’s dangerous, or we are at a turning point or don’t put the title on him, which they’ve done before. They’ve had champions Bret Hart and Jeff Jarrett, where guy’s contracts were up.”
Alvarez: “Yeah. But you’re talking about things in the 90s. It’s 2023 now.”
Meltzer: “Yeah. But they’ve done it before.”
Alvarez: “Well, sure. But you know Vince is out of there. And I don’t think Hunter’s putting the title on somebody whose contract… “
Meltzer: “I don’t either; I don’t either. But the point is he’s got plenty of time. It’s not like you can’t have him win because he’s going to be gone in a month and he hasn’t resigned his deal. And it’s a numbers game. It’s not like he’s a guy who’s looking to leave. It’s just a numbers game. I mean, he wants a certain number, and they did not offer that certain number. And they may be in the middle, and they may not meet in the middle. And he may go home; I don’t know, or he may go. Of course, you can go if anything’s possible.”
McIntyre reveals one of his greatest WWE moments
