Team owner Jim Irsay claims NFL admitted referees made mistakes in Colts’ game week 7 defeat to Browns

The Indianapolis Colts entered Week 7 with a 3-3 record, hoping to improve to a 4-3 record at home. However, they had to swallow a 38-39 loss to the Cleveland Browns at the end, and the loss in week 7 dropped them to third place in the AFC South, behind the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans.

Meanwhile, though the Browns lost their star running back Nick Chubb earlier due to injury, the other RB duo Jerome Ford and Kareem Hunt played magnificently to ensure a much-needed win. However, the team’s victory on Sunday also made headlines for some controversial calls on the field that were in its favor, snatching the win from the Colts at the very last moment.

Jim Irsay claims NFL admits its mistake

The Colts had a heartbreaking one-point loss to the Browns on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium. However, the loss also came with controversies regarding illegal contact as well as defensive-pass-interference calls with a few minutes left in the match.

The 32 teams hold the right to send video footage to the NFL shortly after every match with plays they find questionable. Colts coach Shane Steichen earlier revealed that the franchise would take steps with the league about the debating decision. Meanwhile, the team’s owner Jim Irsay took to social media on Tuesday evening to share the news about the league’s admission of not making correct calls on the field, along with an injury update on QB Anthony Richardson.

“The NFL admits and understands that they did not make the correct calls at end of Sunday’s Colts/Browns Game. I believe we need to institute Instant Replay for all calls, including Penalties, in the last two minutes of All Games, ” he said via ABC News.

Though such a conversation between the team and the league following the game is kept private, Irsay appeared unconcerned, and his irritation with the occurrence was palpable. The veteran also sought an extended replay system in which all calls made by referees in the last two minutes of the game could be reviewed.

Colts lost to Browns due to bad referee decisions

Though Browns star Jerome Ford, who sustained an ankle injury, started the week 7 match with a 69-yard touchdown run to give his team a 7-point lead, the Colts also showcased incredible performance on the field. Even Indianapolis RB Jonathan Taylor was set for a drug test due to his touchdown in the match.

However, despite leading 38-33 at the end of the game, the Colts were unable to secure victory. Darrell Baker Jr., the team’s cornerback, was called for two controversial penalties. DeForest Buckner of the Colts recovered a fumble after sacking Browns quarterback P.J. Walker, who took over for the injured Deshaun Watson. However, Darrell was reported for unauthorized contact, which was a watershed moment for Cleveland.

The cornerback was called for pass interference in the end zone on the next play, and the Browns got possession of the ball at the goal line. The team’s veteran RB Kareem didn’t waste the chance and punched it in to give a one-point loss to the Colts on home ground.
