Vinicius Jr. has developed into Real Madrid’s most exciting attacker in recent seasons. The Brazilian formed a formidable partnership with Karim Benzema, assisting the Frenchman before his shocking departure from Real Madrid to join Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League.
This has made Vinicius Jr. one of Real Madrid’s best players, despite his young age. Ahead of this weekend’s El Clasico, one Barcelona spokesperson has thrown hard jibes at the Brazilian for his showboating in the Champions League against Braga on Tuesday night in a now-deleted tweet.
Barcelona spokesperson slams Vinicius Jr.
For a while now, Vinicius Jr. has been battling the Spanish FA over what is perceived as a lack of proper attention to racism in Spanish football. The Brazilian has had to face racism from fans in Spain, leading to a personal movement against racism and the Spanish authorities. Atletico Madrid Ultras even attacked a young girl wearing his shirt in the Madrid derby.
Ahead of this weekend’s clash of the titans between Real Madrid and Barcelona, Vinicius Jr. is in the headlines again for getting attacked by a Barcelona spokesperson in a now-deleted tweet. Although not racially inspired, Mikel Camps’ words were not well received on social media, prompting the deputy spokesperson of the Barcelona board of members to delete his tweet.
“It’s not racism, he deserves a slap for being a clown and a joker. What do these unnecessary and meaningless bicycles represent in the centre of the field?” the Barcelona spokesperson tweeted.
Camps’ claims came after the Brazilian forward tried to showboat in Real Madrid’s Champions League game against Braga. It is unclear whether the Spanish FA will look at the statement, just like they’ve done with some of the past racist remarks aimed at Vinicius Jr.
The Real Madrid forward was racially abused in Real Madrid’s last La Liga match against Sevilla, although he quickly applauded Sevilla’s effort to isolate the incident and punish the young fan involved.
Vinicius Jr.’s explosive social media accusation
Vinicius Jr., who has credited himself as the man who helped convince Jude Bellingham to join Real Madrid, was at the receiving end of another racist attack against Sevilla last weekend. However, the forward quickly took to social media to applaud Sevilla for their swift response to the sad incident.
“Congratulations to Sevilla on the quick position and the penalty in another sad episode for Spanish Football,” Vinicius Jr. said in a long social media post.
“Unfortunately, I have access to a video of another racist act in this Saturday’s game, this time, carried out by a child. So sad there is no one to educate her. I invest, and I invest a lot, in education in Brazil to train citizens with different attitudes,” he continued.
“The face of today’s racist is stamped on websites, as on several other times. I hope the Spanish authorities do their part and change the legislation once and for all. These people need to be criminally punished too.
It would be a great first step to prepare for the 2030 World Cup. I am here to help. Sorry to sound repetitive, but it’s episode number 19 and counting,” the Brazilian concluded.
