The Arizona Cardinals selected Kyler Murray with the first overall pick in the NFL draft, thinking him will be their potential franchise quarterback. The QB indeed showcased the potential in the last three seasons, albeit he appeared in only 11 games due to back-to-back injuries.
The Cardinals finished the 2022 season with a 4-13 record without Murray. Joshua Dobbs has been in charge of the team’s offense in his absence, and they are sitting at the bottom of the NFC West with a 1-6 mark now. It is pretty clear how the franchise was having a good time when their first draft pick was at the helm. However, the latest injury update says he is on the comeback trail.
Cardinals hopeful for Kyler Murray’s soon return
Kyler Murray is heading to the completion of full recovery after having a 21-day practice window opened for his appearance on the field last week. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, he has been a full participant in Week 2 of his practice window despite being on the physically unable to perform list, as per NFL.com.
However, his return to the action will not be so quick as Rapoport earlier revealed via a league source that he is several weeks away from resuming play. The NFL insider projected two time periods for the signal-caller’s return. The most probable option is that he would practice for three weeks and play against the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 12 or he might return in the match against the Browns on Nov. 5 if he remains healthy.
A sports medicine data analyst Deepak Chona projected either a Week 9 or Week 10 return for the dual threat while expecting a less mobile version of him initially. As for the Cardinals, they want to be assured that their QB is both mentally and physically ready to play. Beside him, the team also updated safety Jalen Thompson (hamstring) from a non-participant to limited.
What is Kyler Murray’s injury?
Murray sustained a Grade 3 Knee ACL injury in a non-contact situation on Dec. 12, 2022, in the 13-27 loss to the New England Patriots. He scrambled before going down following a 3-yard run. The signal-caller was initially declared as “questionable” to return before eventually being ruled out.
The QB recently returned to practice with the squad after missing more than ten months due to the setback. However, he had been seen standing behind the line of scrimmage during training camp as he couldn’t participate in the session due to being on the PUP list.
Meanwhile, Murray was also involved in trade rumors as multiple sources said the Cardinals might be moving on from the $230.5 million star. The team was reportedly eying to trade him to pave the way for their upcoming draft picks, and some possible destinations for him had also been identified.
