Gareth Bale is an ardent enthusiast of many sports. Following his achievement in football and his eventual retirement from the same, he recently celebrated yet another victory by posting on social media, “New trophy for the collection!” He was victorious in the Ryder Cup All-Star Match, partnering with golfing legend Colin Montgomerie and tennis star Novak Djokovic.
Gareth Bale’s versatility and success in various sports remain notable aspects of his athletic career. His recent acknowledgement of the “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order” remark during a widespread celebration highlights his ability to excel in multiple sports and his candid approach to his priorities.
Gareth Bale shows off tennis skills
Gareth Bale’s passion for golf is widely recognized, and so is his passion for tennis. His dedication to the sport has paid off, as he now has a piece of silverware to show for his efforts. He was a part of Team Monty, which convincingly defeated Team Pavin with a score of 7-4 in the inaugural Ryder Cup celebrity All-Star Match held in Rome.
During the Ryder Cup celebrity All-Star Match in Rome, Gareth Bale and captain Montgomerie formed a winning team, defeating Corey Pavin and former professional footballer Andriy Shevchenko with a score of 2-1.
On the other hand, Serbian tennis sensation Novak Djokovic teamed up with Kirk Popert from the G4D Tour (golf for the disabled), and together, they secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz and Italian G4D golfer Tommaso Perrino. It was an impressive performance by both winning pairs.
The former Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur players have also displayed their skillful handling of a tennis racket, flaunting their racket-swinging abilities in a recent video.
Looking back at the controversial flag message from Bale
Gareth Bale celebrated Wales’ qualification for Euro 2020 by holding a flag that bore the message, ‘Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order.’ This celebration generated a significant amount of attention and discussion, reflecting his priorities and the order in which he valued them at the time.
The flag in question, which reads “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order”, was inspired by comments made by former Real Madrid player Pedja Mijatovic. In those comments, Mijatovic suggested that Gareth Bale’s priorities were, in order, focused on Wales, golf, and then Real Madrid. The flag was a playful response to these remarks and became a point of discussion and humour in the football world.
Gareth Bale’s supposed order of sports preference, as echoed by Mijatovic, was turned into a chant by Wales fans as soon as Wales began to lead Azerbaijan by two goals. Bale himself eventually described this occurrence as a good bit of fun, according to GOAL.
Gareth Bale’s celebration caused controversy and outrage among the Spanish media and Real Madrid as they were displeased with the remark. Spanish website Madrid Sports labelled the celebration as “unforgivable,” and Real Madrid characterized it as “a joke in very bad taste,” as reported by ESPN. The celebration was seen as disrespectful by many in Spain and drew significant attention and criticism.
The Welsh forward became very close to leaving Madrid that summer, with Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning interested in signing him. However, the deal collapsed at the last minute.
