The new season of the NBA has started and things are looking Rocky for the Los Angeles Lakers from the get-go. The Lakers faced the Denver Nuggets in their opening match of the season which ended in a loss for the side led by LeBron James.
The game started off with both teams being matched evenly but as the Nuggets gained a dominant hand the crowd went crazy. The Nuggets star Jamal Murray blamed the Head Coach Michael Malone for the banter.
Jamal Murray pins banter on HC after win vs Lakers
The Lakers and Nuggets played their match in Denver, where the crowd was highly energetic. The game was closely contested for most of the duration, with one team dominating briefly, only to be overtaken by the opposing team. It closely resembled last year’s Western Conference finals between the two teams.
Similar to last year, Jamal Murray, Nikola Jokic, and the Nuggets’ starting lineup took control in the fourth quarter, establishing a dominant lead. The Denver side scored 21 points in just six minutes to seal the game, resulting in a final score of 107-119, leaving little hope for a comeback for King James’ side.
The brilliant performance by the Nuggets reminded the Lakers and also sent a message to the rest of the League that they are determined to retain their championship status. Previously one time, the Head coach of the Nuggets, Michael Malone was labeled as “the Lakers daddy” by Vic Lombardi (host of Denver TV).
When the Nuggets took control in the fourth quarter, the crowd went crazy and started chanting, “Who’s your Daddy?” at the opposition. Murray who was at the scorer’s table when the chants started pointed at Malone and made sure he knew this was his fault.
Lakers recorded seventh straight opening-day loss of regular season
The Los Angeles Lakers have disappointed their fans for the seventh time straight. The loss againts the Denver Nuggets on the opening night of the 2023-24 season of the NBA is the seventh straight loss for the Lakers in opening night games. The record for most opening nights lost is held by the Memphis Grizzlies who have lost 13 opening night games.
However, this record is single-handedly broken by LeBron James as he has 14 losses individually on opening night games. The team played well in the first three quarters but displayed a disappointing performance in the final quarter. Anthony Davis has taken the most heat out of this result as he did not score a single point for the team in the entire match. This loss reminds the Lakers that they still need to work on themselves and get better.
