Brock Purdy clutches his head on the field six days after entering concussion protocol as 49ers suffer third consecutive loss

Brock Purdy, a once “Mr. Irrelevant” in the NFL draft, has rapidly defied the odds and garnered trust in a remarkably short time, thanks to his remarkable athletic prowess. In just a single season, he has transformed from an obscure final draft selection into a key player for the San Francisco 49ers.

For the 49ers, witnessing their starting quarterback’s journey marred by consecutive injuries has become a nightmare. The team’s ongoing losing streak has only added distress to their already challenging season.

 Brock Purdy hits his head six days after entering concussion protocol

The injury somehow is tied to the luck of Brock Purdy, as it began to strike violently as soon as the 49ers’ losing streak began to heat the headlines. After spending the whole week in concussion protocol, Purdy’s participation in Week 8 was dubious. 

The starting quarterback made a return from his injury to take on the Cincinnati Bengals. However, the injury reared its head once more, as the 49ers’ player was seen clutching his head and neck after it snapped back violently during the game. As of now, the 49ers have yet to provide any official updates or details about the extent of his injury.

Nevertheless, like in the previous game, this time he was also ruled out of the game. Per CBS Sports, prior to that, in Week 7, the 23-year-old suffered a concussion, though it was unnoticed by his team. Later, the quarterback started having concussion-like symptoms on the plane ride home, prompting his team to put his name in the concussion protocol.

Brock Purdy having horrible 2023-24 NFL season

After winding up the last season discovering the gem Brock Purdy for their offense, the 49ers team with their starter was on cloud nine. A wind hit them in Week 6, forcing them to land on the ground, losing the “Undefeated title” and meeting consecutive losing streaks.

Before the losing streak hit, the second-year quarterback had an impressive 10-0 record as a starter since taking over the starting role in San Francisco. The 49ers’ fans had been treated to flashes of his athletic prowess in the first five games of the season, during which he recorded nine touchdowns with zero interceptions.

Following his worst career performance in the 49ers’ 19-17 loss to the Browns in Week 6, Purdy’s struggles continued in Weeks 7 and 8.

The 49ers’ hero failed to shine in any of his last three contests, throwing five interceptions while managing only three touchdown passes.

So far this season, the quarterback accumulated 2,033 yards, 12 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.
