Marcus Rashford enjoyed his most prolific campaign last season when he scored 32 goals for Manchester United in all competitions. His goals helped United secure a third-place finish in the Premier League and lift the Carabao Cup trophy over Newcastle United. It was indeed a great run for the 26-year-old.
Sadly, things haven’t gone well for the English forward this season, with only one goal in as many matches so far this season. The former United academy player looks short of confidence, with another lackluster performance in the 3-0 loss against City at Old Trafford. Rather than reflecting on the loss, Marcus Rashford reportedly went clubbing, causing huge controversy on social media.
Rashford reportedly goes clubbing after derby defeat
Marcus Rashford had another quiet game in the Manchester derby at Old Trafford, which Erik Ten Hag’s men lost 3-0. His lack of creativity has marred his game this season, with his confidence suffering a huge hit after just one Premier League goal in 10 Premier League games this season.
This did not stop the 26-year-old from enjoying a carefree birthday party just hours after the match, as reported by the Daily Mail. The report states that Marcus Rashford had a lavish birthday party in the VIP area of Chinawhite, a popular nightclub in Manchester.
The party was attended by injury-ravaged Tyrell Malacia and the forward’s family and friends. The Daily Mail also reported that the celebrations lasted through the early hours of Monday morning, when Rashford was supposed to resume training. Despite the heavy partying, Rashford managed to make it to Carrington for his Monday training obligations.
Rashford earned himself a £375,000 per week contract after his remarkable run last season but has failed to justify that kind of money with lackluster performances this season.
United are in free fall, and Erik Ten Hag must fix things soon to get the club back on track if he doesn’t want to risk losing his job.
Fans divided over winger’s actions
Marcus Rashford’s decision to party just hours after being humbled by Manchester City has left fans divided on social media. While some are angry with the winger for not showing any class by going to the nightclub after a humbling defeat, others think attending a pre-planned birthday party is not a bad thing.
“Time to suspend him too,” a fan said, “I bet he moved on the dance floor more than he did on the pitch. Rashford and his fellow teammates need a good hard look in the mirror. They play for Manchester United. They’re in a very lucky position. Repay the fans with hard work,” he added.
“A man goes out to a pre-planned party to celebrate his birthday with family and friends, and it gets turned into a media circus with innuendos and what-not. Well, Happy Birthday, Marcus,” another fan said.
