One standout example is Charles Leclerc, who joined the Maranello team in 2019 and has since achieved podium finishes, earning the trust of the ‘Scarlet team.’
In Formula 1, there is a mandatory rule that requires teams to have reserve drivers with less than two years of F1 experience. Ferrari consistently taps into their development program to bring in new talent. Recently, another one of their rookies was given a chance and impressed during Free Practice sessions. However, in a surprising turn of events, he announced that he won’t be returning to the sport in 2024, despite his strong performance.
Ferrari driver confirms he won’t compete in F1 2024 racing
Ollie Bearman, an F2 driver in the Ferrari Driver program, substituted for Kevin Magnussen in the FP1 session of the Mexican Grand Prix. He drove the Haas VF23 and showcased remarkable performance among his F2 peers who also participated. While he left a strong impression on the paddock, even outperforming Fernando Alonso in the 2023 FP1 session, it’s confirmed that Ollie won’t be making an appearance in the 2024 season.
The Ferrari driver explained himself in an official statement issued to Sky Sports. “I won’t be in F1 next year I will be in F2 again it’s quite sure,” Bearman said to Sky Sports.
“And the goal is clear, second year in F2, I have to win it. Hopefully, I can do enough job to finish in this paddock one day. F1 is the next step but it’s a bit more difficult than the previous ones.”
Where is Ferrari standing in F1 Championship?
Ferrari had a fantastic 2022 season after facing letdowns with former drivers. Their development instilled confidence in the team, and they were seen as potential contenders against Red Bull in 2023. However, the Maranello team lost their impressive performance, and things went back to how they were in previous years.
They currently stand 3rd in the constructor’s championship with 349 points against their rivals Mercedes, who are ahead by 22 points. The situation is evident in their drivers Carlos Sainz currently in 4th place with 183 points and Charles Leclerc in 7th with 166 points. They’ve only secured one win, even though the conditions were favorable during the Mexico GP. Ferrari couldn’t take full advantage of this newfound opportunity.
