After getting declared by the NFL GOAT Tom Brady as his successor, the Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes was projected to secure a win against the Denver Broncos against whom he holds a record 12-0 winning streak. However, the Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson didn’t let the streak continue by giving an upsetting 24-9 loss to the defending champions.
Aside from the recent Week 8 loss, the Chiefs are also having hard times due to injuries of their starting linebackers Nick Bolton and Willie Gay. Having a high-voltage match against the mighty Miami Dolphins in Week 9, the team acquired a known face in the squad.
Darius Harris returns as Chiefs shore up LB depth
Harris has been in the Chiefs squad in the past three seasons (2019-2022) and played a pivotal role as a deep linebacker on the defensive side as well as on special teams. Now, the franchise has decided to let him return to the squad by signing him from the Las Vegas practice squad, per SI.com.
The move came after the Chiefs failed attempt to acquire the Denver Broncos star Ben Niemann. The Broncos promoted Ben to the active roster, and hence, Mahomes’ squad couldn’t attain him.
Harris recorded 43 tackles including 23 solo tackles for 1.5 sacks in his 17 games in Kansas City in the previous year. Besides this move, the Chiefs also released Isaiah Moore from the practice squad with an injury designation, just after getting him enrolled back in the practice squad recently.
Chiefs set to face Dolphins in Germany
The Chiefs are going to face off against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Nov. 5 at Frankfurt Stadium. They will be in Germany to play one of two 2023 NFL Games in the country. The team’s Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt announced the news via a statement.
“We are thrilled to be headed to Frankfurt this fall to play the Dolphins. The Chiefs have a long history of helping to grow the game of football around the world, and we have been eagerly anticipating our chance to play in Germany.”
In 2021, the Chiefs were awarded International Home Marketing Area (IHMA) rights for Germany and Mexico. Hunt said the award increased their engagement with fans and partners.
“Ever since the Chiefs were awarded International Home Marketing Rights for Germany, we have engaged with fans and partners throughout the DACH region, and we can feel the enthusiasm for NFL football. We look forward to bringing the Chiefs Kingdom to Germany and to sharing the game with our fans in Europe.”
The NFL also awarded expanded International Home Marketing Area rights for Austria and Switzerland to the Chiefs. The franchise will board a plane on Thursday afternoon for Germany, per Peter King of NBC Sports.
Meanwhile, the Dolphins will land on the destination ahead of the rivals as head coach Mike McDaniel wants to let his team have time to see the sights of Frankfurt and stay out of the football activities for a while.
