Raiders reportedly set to tap rookie Aidan O’Connell as starting QB over Jimmy Garoppolo

Since the last season, the Las Vegas Raiders team seemingly has been rushing to bolster their offense, motivating the team owner Mark Davis to shoulder Josh McDaniels the coaching responsibilities of his team. After failing to add Tom Brady as their starter and Derek Carr as his backup, the LA team at last kicked off the season with Jimmy Garoppolo.

Nothing of their moves could find a great solution for their offense, leading the team to sack McDaniels while naming a rookie quarterback to take the spot of Garoppolo.

Aidan O’Connell to lead Raiders offense

The Raiders inked Garoppolo with a three-year deal to lead their offense. The starter, unfortunately, experienced a serious injury letting his team bench him. It was the second time the quarterback missed his game after skipping a contest for a concussion.

Meanwhile, Jimmy was on pace to play against the Detroit Lions, after being a full participant in practice. After failing to complete a single pass beyond 20 air yards in Week 8, one of the worst records of Garoppolo’s career, the Raiders were seemingly trying to move on from their starter.

The move was reported by Mike Garoppolo that the LA team is expected to start their next contest with their rookie player Aidan O’Connell, sidelining their vet starter.

Garoppolo’s concussion paved the way for O’Connell to appear in his spot during Week 4 when the vet player was out. The fourth-round pick racked up 24 of 29 passes for 238 yards with one interception in the 24-17 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Underperforming Raiders fire HC Josh McDaniels

The 1-3 start was far enough to cause frustration, yet the team owner chose to convey his trust in his coach in spite of failing to provide the team with good offensive plays. Under his leadership, the Raiders team failed to reach the 20-point mark a single time in all of their games this season, marking it as the longest drought by a team to set a season off since 2009.

Though the team saw two straight wins during Week 4 and 5, their losing run again found them in line in their following contests. Amid these, the coach found Davis as a one-man army in his support, who even yelled at the fans for Josh.

Nevertheless, the owners perhaps thought that he had seen enough, and it was the perfect timing to terminate their relations with McDaniels, per NFL.com. At last, the clock stopped for McDaniels in Las Vegas yesterday, leading him to fold his Raiders chapter with a 9-16 record.
