What happened during Coco Gauff vs Belinda Bencic

In the Citi Open 2023, the 19-year-old star went against the Swiss stunner Belinda Bencic in the quarterfinals. Both players have reached a career-best ranking of world number 4. The last time these two players went up against each other was at Adelaide International in 2021.

Back then, Bencic was able to defeat Coco Gauff after a 3-set struggle. This time, however, things were much different.

Coco Gauff won in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) and did not give her opponent the smallest of chances. Fans admired the improvement in Coco’s game and showered her with laud for her highly significant development. The teenager constructed every point, and her immaculate defense and athleticism shone through.

Amidst the teenager dominating Bencic in the quarterfinals, a scary incident in the stands led to the fans alerting the paramedics. A fan suddenly collapsed in the middle of the match. The match came to a brief halt while the medics helped the fan in distress.

Coco Gauff reveals she learned CPR

During this incident, Coco showed her concern for the fan in distress and tried to help out too. She said:

“At first I was just making sure that it wasn’t something cardiac,” Gauff said. “I just took a CPR class, so if they needed me to jump in I was ready. I have my certification.”

The prodigy even joked about how she knew that there were better professionals to care for the patient but her willingness to jump in and help showed the youngster’s kindness. She went on to encourage everyone in the stadium to learn Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) as well. “Everybody in the stadium should take the class. It took 90 minutes. I booked it on the flight from Wimbledon, it’s really informative,” Coco said.
