Novak Djokovic is not showing any sign of slowing down as he continues to rewrite the record books. The Serbian star became the first male player in history to win 24 Grand Slam titles and most weeks at No. 1 on the ATP rankings with 398, to name a few. At the Paris Masters, the 36-year-old tennis star fought hard and never gave up despite being sick, booed, and exhausted to prove his dominance in Masters 1000 events.
Furthermore, Djokovic toppled Rafael Nadal to become the player with the highest career winning percentage in ATP tennis history after defeating Grigor Dimitrov in the Paris-Bercy final.
Novak Djokovic extends his lead over Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer
Novak Djokovic delivered a strong performance, winning 6-4, 6-3 against Grigor Dimitrov to secure his 7th Rolex Paris trophy and extend his lead in Masters Titles. In the Paris-Bercy final, he defeated Dimitrov and claimed his 40th ATP Masters 100 trophy, surpassing Rafael Nadal, who has 36, and Roger Federer, who has 28.
Novak Djokovic has an impressive collection of 70 Big Titles in his trophy cabinet, including 24 Grand Slam titles, 6 Nitto ATP Finals, and 40 ATP Masters 1000 tournaments. He now holds the title for the player with the highest career winning percentage in ATP tennis history at 83.68%. Nadal is in second place with 82.92%, and Roger Federer is fourth with 81.98%.
Djokovic is the sole player to have won the Paris Masters a record seven times. After securing victories at the Cincinnati Open in August and now in Paris, the Serbian star has expanded his record for earning multiple Masters 1000 titles in 12 seasons during his career. In addition, he has claimed 97 tour-level titles, making him the third player in history to achieve this feat, alongside Jimmy Connors with 109 titles and Roger Federer with 103 titles.
Novak Djokovic speaks on his professional tennis future
Novak Djokovic delivered a consistent performance that gave opponents few opportunities at the Rolex Paris Masters event as he defeated Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 6-3 in the final that lasted just 98 minutes. The Serbian became the first tennis men’s player to win 40 Masters 1000 titles.
After the win, Novak Djokovic said he wants to win more: “I am going for every possible record, every record I can achieve. I never had any problem saying that; that’s why people don’t like me. I do not pretend like some do, to say that I want to achieve something and then behave differently afterwards.”
“[It’s] incredible. To be able to win it after quite challenging circumstances for me this week,” Djokovic added “Basically, coming back from the brink of losing three matches in a row, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I was very close to losing those matches and somehow managed to find an extra gear when it was needed.
“Today, I think we both were quite tight at the beginning, and I could see that he was running out of gas a little bit. Myself as well, but I somehow managed to find an extra shot over the net. I think the match was closer than the scoreline indicates, but another amazing win for me. I’m very proud of this one, considering what I’ve been through this week.”
The victory means that the world no. 1 Novak Djokovic now has 1490 points leads over no. 2 Carlos Alcaraz as they head to the season-ending Nitto ATP finals in Turin. Also, it seems likely over for Alcaraz’s bid to topple Djokovic, as there is a likelihood Djokovic would win the ATP Finals.
