George Russell and his teammate were in for an unpleasant shock during the Brazilian GP weekend, as the car they hoped would challenge for a race win was now trying to extract meager points from the race as they struggled badly. This prompted Toto Wolff to exclaim in frustration about the worth of their car.
While both of the drivers have had their fair share of difficulties, Lewis Hamilton has developed a constant gloomy outlook towards his ride and looks forward to ditching it soon. George Russell, on the other hand, has shown more optimism than the 7-time world champion and is still aware of the changing situations later on.
George Russell looks forward to bouncing back
George Russell displayed a lot of maturity in his recent post on Twitter, where he countered the fact that they were unable to perform up to par because of the inherent issues in the Mercedes W14. The entire Mercedes has stayed in a state of misbelief and gloom throughout the season because last year, they had a way better car in terms of race pace and competition and it actually won the Brazil GP 2022. George Russell was the one who made Mercedes cross over to the other side with a near-perfect race weekend last year.
But after the Brazilian GP of 2023, things do not seem to be calm and composed at all. Their car has had issues ever since regulation changes in 2022 and to make matters worse, Mercedes suffered a huge loss to it’s development team recently. While others mourn the bad results, George Russell’s eyes still shine with a glimmer of hope that the team will bounce back. He asked his fans to stay by their sides and thanked them for their continued support.
Hamilton provides grim forecast for Red Bull challenge
George Russell’s compatriot and teammate Lewis Hamilton, on the other hand, has pretty much given up on their car and he doesn’t think that situation is going to change. Furthermore, Lewis is looking forward to the end of the season while talking highly about Max Verstappen, claiming that he will win 18-19 races in the season.
Lewis’s words seemed to echo with the common sentiments prevalent among the public about the dominance of Red Bull and Max Verstappen. “The Red Bull is so far away, I think they’re probably going to be very clear for the next couple of years,” said Hamilton in a recent interview, voicing his concerns. Things aren’t going pretty smoothly for Hamilton and George but only time will tell what the 2024 season has in store for them.
