After winning the 2022 Sydney International Open and reaching her highest career ranking, Paula Badosa has not gone past the round of 16 this season. The Spanish star picked up a stress fracture injury at the Roland Garros, was sidelined for eight weeks, fell out of the top 50 during her early Wimbledon exit, she announced that she was out of the season.
However, Badosa found love with Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas amid the strange circumstances and the couple has been helping each other get the best out of each other in recent times.
Badosa breaks silence over fans’ criticism
In September, Stefanos Tsitsipas suffered two early defeats at the China Open and Shanghai Masters. Coupled with his poor outing at the US Open, fans began to blame the tennis player’s girlfriend and tennis star Paula Badosa for the Greek misfortune. Despite the harsh claims, Paula Badosa continued to make the relationship public by posting pictures and videos of their moments on social media.
In a recent interview with El Pais, Paula Badosa revealed that the people who attack her relationship with Stefanos Tsitsipas and say she’s harming his career hurt her badly.
“That has hurt me a lot, because with the whole issue of the injury, I have actually been able to dedicate myself quite a bit to helping him. We both love tennis & he is also a super-working person, we are very similar in the goals we set for ourselves. We talk a lot about tennis, and we help each other a lot. As you can see, I have gone to the court to support him or to the gym to accompany him, always respecting the times and his people, his team,” Paula Badosa said.
“He has also supported me a lot with the injury, so when we read those things it impacts us. Sometimes people are not able to understand how that can affect you, or affect a relationship. I can understand that we are public figures and that we are exposed, but in the end, we are two 25-year-olds, and all this is delicate, because it is an innocent relationship… For people to go around saying things is quite serious, because they are destroying the career of someone who has spent his entire life dedicating himself to what he does. I don’t think that giving an opinion this way is very humane,” Badosa added.
Paula Badosa sets sights on Billie Jean King Cup comeback
Paula Badosa has teamed up with Spain ahead of the Billie Jean King Cup. After suffering from a back injury and stress fracture and slipping down to 56th in world ranking after peaking at no.2, the tournament would give the 25-year-old star a chance to end the season on a high note. An important tournament for teams in women’s tennis sees Spain, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Australia, Slovenia, Canada, France, Italy, the United States, Poland, Germany and Kazakhstan battle it out in the Estadio de la Cartuja.
Badosa spoke about her recovery from injury at a press conference. “I had to be patient, because she really wanted to play again,” she said, admitting that time on the sidelines had helped her change her view on the sport.”Looking at it from another perspective, now I believe that tennis is not everything in my life. I have been doing other things, and it is good to know yourself, so I have also enjoyed this time.”
Paula Badosa has her country on her shoulder, and her team would be expecting her to show an incredible display in the tournament. Whether she would live up to the bidding or not is left to her performance on the court.
