Red Bull’s Max Verstappen strongly opposes F1’s new rule after Christian Horner’s bold declaration

Max Verstappen is actively speaking up against some of the irrelevant and wrong rules prevalent in Formula 1. This includes the decisions and new introductions to the sport, including the Sprint races, which have been annoying him for the past few races. Incidentally, Max Verstappen has seen another flaw in the FIA’s regulations that he doesn’t want to be implemented.

Max Verstappen and other drivers were often involved in pit lane incidents for the past few races, where a huge jam was caused at the start of the pit lane. These new challenges have forced FIA to take new measures to stop such traffic and make the event run smoothly. Thus, FIA has updated rules in lieu of these incidents, hoping to improve the situation.

Verstappen expresses concerns over F1’s updated regulations

In order to avoid such predicaments, the FIA has introduced measures to ensure the pit lane fiasco is gone forever. The new pit lane rules have come forth, and they indicate that the driver cannot stop his car unnecessarily in the fast lane of the pit lane. Although, during the Sprint Shootout, drivers may create a gap between pit lane exit lights and the SC2 line. The FIA has outlined in Article 33.2 of the sporting regulations that it must be done as far left as possible to let others overtake them from the right side.

Max Verstappen expressed his frustrations over the same in an interview: “It was absolutely terrible,” said the Dutchman. “On this track, you have quite a long pit exit, and there are some walls.

“But on some other tracks, if we implement this, you’re driving very slowly onto a straight where people are passing with 300+. And you’re maybe driving at 15, 20 to make a gap, which is extremely dangerous.”

Max Verstappen further rebuked the organization of qualifying sessions while going through the issue of slow drivers. “For me, this doesn’t work at all,” Max Verstappen added. “It just creates even more trouble. I mean, look at what was hhappening—peoplegoing on the grass, including myself, to try and pass cars.”

“It’s just a mess every single qualifying, you have like six to eight cars getting noted for driving too slow with the minimum time. I don’t know what we’re trying to achieve.”

Horner denies Red Bull’s reliance on Adrian Newey

The success that Red Bull and Max Verstappen have enjoyed over the years due to its aerodynamic advantage can be hugely attributed to Adrian Newey. ‘The Airbender’ of Red Bull has done everything he can to make the most out of his cars and developed them into absolute rocketships. His knowledge and skills famous to the point that almost every fan believes Red Bull cars run because of Adrian Newey. It is a common habit in the F1 community to call the Red Bull beasts a product of Newey alone.

Christian Horner though didn’t like the hype built around Newey, as he thinks that crediting a single person for the entire car isn’t ethical, “It’s the perfect scenario,” he said. “We’ve built a machine that isn’t dependent on one individual but which enables Adrian to feed in and out, to mentor, to challenge ideas and so on.”

“I suppose it’s evolved over the last four or five years as Adrian has become involved in other projects. He can’t be everywhere.” He further revealed the role of team after Adrian’s cycling accident, “But as he’s taken on a broader role the rest of the group has had to evolve and develop. Particularly after Adrian’s accident in 2021, the guys really had to step up with the design of RB18.”
