Real Madrid’s interest in Kylian Mbappe has always been made public. In fact, Florentino Perez, Real Madrid’s president, made it a personal mission to bring the Frenchman to the club, but all three attempts to lure the 25-year-old to the club proved abortive, leading Mbappe to sign a contract extension with PSG last season.
Now Real Madrid have reportedly given up on their pursuit of the Frenchman. Mbappe is yet to sign a new contract at PSG, leaving his future pretty much uncertain as the Spanish giants have decided to give up on their star transfer target.
What caused Real Madrid to lose interest in Kylian Mbappe
Real Madrid have ended their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe. After failing to land their man for three summer transfer windows, the Spanish giants won’t be making a galactico-like effort to bring the Frenchman to Spain despite being potentially available for free next summer.
Nobody prepared for it, but Perez seems to have made up his mind about the potential transfer of the World Cup winner. According to GOAL, sources close to the club explained that the player’s potential demand of at least €20 million a year plus the huge bonus he’s set to demand would pose a big problem for the club, who have cut down on galactico signings in the past few seasons.
A player of Mbappe’s stature will command a huge salary, which is a luxury Real Madrid cannot afford at the moment, at least not just for a single player.
Another concern is his age. Real Madrid have adopted a transfer policy that only sees them target younger players for the long term. If any transfer were to materialize between Mbappe and Real Madrid, he would be 26 by the time it happened.
Also, Mbappe once disappointed those at Real Madrid when he made a U-turn on his future last year to sign a new contract at PSG after he had given Florentino Perez his word about a possible transfer. This must have played a huge part in the club’s decision to ditch the transfer.
Lastly, the commercial structure it would require to bring the Frenchman to the club could cause a huge economic meltdown in the club, even if it is one of the richest clubs in the world.
Carlo Ancelotti recently refused to comment on the subject when asked in the wake of the club’s 3-0 win over Braga on Tuesday night.
Achraf Hakimi offers his candid thoughts on Kylian Mbappe transfer saga
Kylian Mbappe is currently not bothered about potential transfers as he’s focusing on having a great season at PSG in what has been an inconsistent campaign for the French giants this season.
“It’s not my thing, that’s for him to decide,” said Achraf Hakimi, who happens to be one of the closest people to Mbappe. “He is happy, quite happy, and he shows it. Let’s hope he stays with us for much longer.”
“The truth is that we don’t talk about that; he doesn’t have it in mind. We talk about ourselves, about our present, about Paris, and the truth is we do hope to have great things together,” he concluded.
Mbappe revealed his love for AC Milan when he was young, and he traveled to San Siro when both clubs played their fourth UCL game of the season in Italy. The Frenchman was caught reacting hilariously to the sight of the home fans throwing fake money at Gianluigi Donnarumma, who angered them when he left the club for free for PSG in 2021.
