The Arizona Cardinals, led by Kyler Murray, are sitting in the last spot in the NFC West with a 1-8 record. As their franchise quarterback couldn’t be a starter this season due to his injury, the team relied on Joshua Dobbs for the role.
However, Dobbs couldn’t prove his worth and ultimately got traded to the Minnesota Vikings to take the place of their injured QB Kirk Cousins. Meanwhile, the Cardinals have received much-needed happy news, as Murray will be seen with his knights in the upcoming games of this season.
Cardinals announce Kyler Murray’s return to action
Murray has recently returned to practice with the Cardinals squad after missing almost ten months due to his injury. The team’s head coach Jonathan Gannon earlier said the signal-caller would need to meet a number of goals as they needed to ensure that he was at ease on the field.
Now, the good news is here, as the Cardinals officially announced they would let Kyler continue his quarterbacking job after missing the field for almost a year. He will return to action on Sunday in the match against the Atlanta Falcons.
The signal-caller has been a full participant from Week 2 of his practice window despite being placed on the physically unable-to-perform list. Gannon has witnessed his effort and dedication in those periods. On Friday morning, the coach announced Murray’s comeback news, saying he is excited to have the weapon back in action after such a prolonged tenure.
“Honestly, I’m excited for the guy. I’ve seen what he’s had to go through the last eight months or so—however long I’ve been here—and what he’s put into it and how bad he wants to be out there and the competitor that he is. He wants to be out there with the guys and help his team win. So that’s what I’m most excited to see,” he said via ESPN.
The Cardinals are 1-12 since Murray was injured, and the HC said the whole team is now excited to “get the guy in the huddle” to come out of the losing streak.
Cardinals release video narrating Murray’s inspirational return
Murray recorded 2,368 yards for 14 touchdowns in the eleven games he played last season before sustaining the injury. After starting the season on the PUP list, reports said the veteran wouldn’t be allowed to resume play this season if he somehow failed to reach it in the allotted 21-day practice session.
However, the signal-caller successfully got over the setback and is ready to pull the Cardinals from their misfortune. The team is also ready to welcome their franchise QB and has released a video ahead of his first action on the field. The video included clips of when he was taken off the field in a cart and taken to the hospital. It also included footage of his rehab, including walking in a zero-gravity pod as well as doing scream-inducing squats.
Murray tore his ACL while attempting to outwit a defender which led him to fall on grass during the week 14 contest against the New England Patriots in December 2022. He was eventually carted off the field and had surgery on the injured knee on Jan. 3.
