Though Kirk Cousins has showcased a stellar performance so far in the 2023 NFL season, his team Minnesota Vikings are not having a worthy season. The team is sitting at the second spot of the NFC North, albeit its 5-4 mark seems lackluster compared to the other elite teams in the league this season.
Besides having a less than promising season, the Vikings had also witnessed a blow when they lost Cousins for this season due to an injury. The team has assigned the role to Josh Dobbs whom they acquired from the Arizona Cardinals. Though Cousins is now out of the squad due to his injury setback, Dobbs couldn’t help mentioning the QB’s impact in the team.
Josh Dobbs talks on how it feels to work with Kirk Cousins
The New York Jets star Aaron Rodgers has been a constant support for the team and his backup Zach Wilson despite rehabbing from his season-ending injury. Cousins, having a similar supportive nature, has also stretched his helping hands towards the QB who replaced him.
On his Wednesday’s press conference, Josh Dobbs said he had been able to form a bonding with Kirk just after landing in Minnesota while heaping praise on the dual-threat’s personality.
“He’s been in the complex starting his rehab. We actually share the same agent, so I was able to get connected with him pretty quickly once I got up here, and it’s been great to have him as a resource. He’s been awesome,” he said via NBC Sports.
The new Vikings QB earlier revealed his struggle to adapt to the team’s offense. However, being a support teammate, Cousins didn’t forget to offer him help in this regard and told the signal-caller to reach him out without any hesitation.
“The first thing he said was, ‘If you need anything, want to know more about the offense, whatever you need – don’t hesitate to call, text.’ And he’s been in our meetings.”
Having such a supportive person and veteran player in the squad is a big plus point for Dobbs, and he disclosed his plan to capitalize on the opportunity by using the injured QB “as a resource” for learning the Vikings play book.
The QB completed 20-of-30 passes for 158 yards along with two touchdowns in last week’s win. He also rushed seven times for 66 yards with a touchdown, and even earned a nod from NASA along with the accolade of the NFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Kirk Cousins injury update
After sustaining a season-ending injury, Kirk Cousins has undergone a successful surgery to repair his torn Achilles tendon on Nov. 1 at Twin Cities Orthopedics in Eagan, Minnesota. The surgery was led by renowned Dr. Chris Coetzee, and the QB thanked the veteran following the successful procedure while asking for prayers from netizens.
“Surgery was a success! Grateful for your prayers, Dr. Coetzee’s abilities, and our medical team. Would appreciate continued prayers! One day at a time,” he wrote on social media platform X.
During the Vikings match against the Green Bay Packers in Week 8, the signal-caller injured himself in the fourth quarter on a third down from the rival’s 22-yard line after being sacked by their defensive tackle Kenny Clark. He was unable to put weight on his leg and carted off the field for checkups.
The Vikings star’s 2023 NFL season has come to an end getting tied for the league’s most touchdown passes (18) while throwing for 2,331 yards, which is the NFC best. He also threw only five interceptions.
