Vikings injured star Cam Akers slapped with $8,065 fine for ‘unsportsmanlike conduct’ during NFL match against Falcons

Cam Akers seems to be struggling this season, with his performance on the field not matching expectations. His recent game against the Minnesota Vikings didn’t help either. Despite his lackluster play, it’s not his gameplay but his off-field behavior that’s making headlines, adding insult to his disappointing season.

The NFL let his name hang on the board, demanding a hefty fine for his conduct in the middle of the player’s concern regarding a projected season-ending injury.

The league recently declared fines for some players, while with the Las Vegas Raiders’ Josh Jacobs, Cam Akers’ name was also listed. The Vikings receiver was fined $8,065. It was the result of the “unsportsmanlike conduct” that he displayed in the second quarter of the game during the Vikings’ win over the Atlanta Falcons.

With a quick move, the 24-year-old tackled defensive lineman Kentavius Street in front of quarterback Josh Dobbs. He set the stage for Dobbs to convert a critical third and ten in this way. That was an easy scenario until the play ended and Akers waved a finger at Street.

Without prior warning, he drew the league’s attention and was fined for his actions. This fine marked Commissioner Roger Goodell’s latest and most controversial decision.

This season, the league seems to be less understanding of the player’s actions. In Week 9, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was penalized for gesturing toward a defender while scoring a touchdown, which alarmed NFL supporters.

Superstar J.J. Watt of the Houston Texans was driven to express his displeasure, accusing the league of “stealing money” in his most recent criticism of the organization’s treatment of sanctions.

Cam Akers injury update

Cam Akers sustained a gruesome Achilles injury in the second half of the game on Sunday afternoon. He was carted off the field after he was tackled awkwardly, with the motive of making a catch. He soon made his way to the locker room before being ruled out for a possible knee injury.

Following the game, head coach Kevin O’Connell thrashed out that their receiver likely sustained an Achilles injury. Though the news is still to be ascertained, the injury would probably end his season.

The receiver began his journey in Minnesota this September after the Rams traded him to the Vikings in exchange for a future draft pick. If the injury ultimately sidelines him for the season, the fourth-year running back has to end this season with 142 rushing yards, 57 receiving yards, and two touchdowns, per Yahoo Sports.

With his injury, the Vikings’ offensive room got another hit, which has been dealing with a power shortage due to their quarterback Kirk Cousin’s season-ending injury.

Though Josh Dobbs has already taken Cousin’s role, the quarterback is also experiencing a threat in coping with the team’s environment.
