Max Verstappen may be a Formula 1 maestro, but he is also a football fanatic. Verstappen’s love for football exudes passionately in his support for PSV, his favorite team, as he claims he can sacrifice glory just for the sake of their championship win. Max Verstappen is also an active FC24 player with a sponsorship from EAFC.
The recent circumstances that have unfolded between Verstappen and a remarkable player from one of the top teams of English League, have caused a lot a drama and controversy among people. The fans are confused about which team, Max Verstappen truly supports.
Max Verstappen dons Virgil Van Dijk jersey
Max Verstappen is a huge fan of football and he calls the English Premier League his favorite tournament. Max Verstappen also opened up about Manchester City’s dominance claiming that he doesn’t like the way City is winning every match and that, he is a Manchester United fan. When he was asked about Liverpool however, Verstappen stated he has always loved a good match and he is close with some players of Liverpool.
Max Verstappen and Dutch international Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool are close friends, as they often support and congratulate each other. After his record breaking 2023 season, Max Verstappen became a triple champion and Van Dijk celebrated Verstappen’s achievement, by gifting him a jersey and a special video message, “Max, Congratulations! Another championship! Well done! It’s been a pleasure to watch you.”
Verstappen revealed the details later on in a livestream explaining the relevance of the jersey and how he felt about it. “I got this one actually from Virgil a couple of days ago. He wore it during the match against Greece, where he scored the penalty. So, I think that’s pretty lovely.”
It’s clear that Max Verstappen’s new jersey might’ve disappointed some die-hard Man United fans who were hoping that Max wouldn’t side with their nemesis Liverpool. But it is absolutely just, given both Max and Virgil are Dutch internationals.
