John Obi Mikel proclaims initiative to bring high profile Manchester United target Victor Osimhen to Chelsea

Victor Osimhen is currently one of the most sought-after players in the world. The Nigerian striker had led Napoli to a historic Serie A title and was the top scorer as well. Every team in the world is now looking at him, as he has established himself as a top player.

But he is now close to leaving the club, especially after he was controversially mocked by the social media accounts of the club. Despite him playing for the club, he is expected to make a big move soon. And a former teammate of his is eager to see him at one such club.

Former Blues John Obi Mikel hell-bent on bringing Victor Osimhen to Chelsea

That player is none other than John Obi Mikel, a retired veteran of the club who has played for Chelsea and Nigeria. He is considered a cult legend at the club for his many years of service and achievements. He did not hide his desire to see Osimhen play for his former club, for whom he still holds a lot of affection.

Recently, he hosted the Napoli Star Man on his podcast, speaking about a lot of topics. At one point, when talking about his future, Mikel offered to help Osimhen reach Stamford Bridge next season and advised him to stay away from the Saudi Pro League. Reportedly, Saudi club Al Hilal, who went all out for Neymar Jr., had made a huge offer to the player and his club, but despite the temptation, he had declined it.

On his podcast, The Obi One Podcast he said, “It’s not the time to go to Saudi. Next season I know you’re going to come to Chelsea. I’m going to be the agent to broker that deal. You’re 100% coming to Chelsea!” Osimhen could only give out a laugh in return.

Mikel wanted to make sure it happened, as he is still following Chelsea and thinks Victor Osimhen can replace legend Didier Drogba. “I’m going to make sure that deal happens because we are crying out for someone like you. Since the big man left the club, you know Didier Drogba, my teammate, we haven’t had anybody with that figure, that stature, that personality.”

Victor Osimhen discusses Premier League aspirations

Victor Osimhen also did not hide his admiration for the Premier League, which could be his next destination. Many of the English clubs have long been monitoring him and could pounce this summer.

In reply to Mikel, Osimhen said he didn’t have a favourite club but pointed out two clubs, “I don’t have a favourite Premier League club, but I have two shirts – Chelsea and Manchester United. Many of my friends are Chelsea fans, a few Man United. The Premier League is the most popular league for any African player, it’s a great league.” He also admitted that Didier Drogba is one of his idols, and that he still watches his highlight reels.

Victor Osimhen is now linked with Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal. United and Liverpool are unlikely to spend huge amounts as they have strikers who are simply underperforming. Arsenal would also want a swap deal with Napoli involving Gabriel Jesus. It is Chelsea who could actually land the player at their club next summer.

They have no problems financially and have a strong need for striker Osimhen’s profile. The player himself may want the move to happen, and most likely, he could wear the blue of Chelsea rather than the blue of Napoli next season.

Victor Osimhen is currently injured and will also miss Nigeria’s matches this international break. He would later return to Napoli after he recovered from his injury.
