Fernando Alonso sets sights on Dakar Rally to fulfill legacy despite regretting pre-Aston Martin career moves

Fernando Alonso is one of the most celebrated drivers of Formula 1 and has had his fair share of achievements in Formula 1 and different series outside F1 too. Although Alonso is currently having the time of his life in Aston Martin as he challenges podiums and looks forward to a possible race win, he isn’t so satisfied with his career yet.

Fernando has been through a variety of teams in Formula 1, and almost everywhere he has had a stroke of bad luck approach him in one way or another. Having driven for big teams like Ferrari and claimed two world titles, Fernando Alonso isn’t the type to settle for mediocrity.

Alonso envisions Dakar rally triumph in post-F1 career

Fernando had the most versatile career out of any driver in racing; he has participated in numerous events throughout the world and won several of them with expertise. He even got a podium in rally racing alongside a win in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. Alonso had also participated in the Dakar Rally during his career break from Formula 1 to better himself.

Fernando Alonso is in no hurry to leave Formula 1 and rightly so, he has been performing at par with the top drivers and Helmut Marko even thinks he can compete against Max Verstappen with a good car. His stint in rally racing left a mark in his mind however, and Fernando wants to return to Dakar to prove his worth and satisfy his racing passion.

“When I retire from Formula 1, I would love to return to the Dakar,” he told the media. “Trying to win the Dakar Rally is a clear goal in my career. It would complete me, make me happy and I think it would leave an almost unprecedented legacy. Winning in Formula 1, Endurance and rallying would complete the perfect circle of a racing driver.”

Fernando Alonso reflects on regrettable moves before joining Aston Martin

Charles Leclerc isn’t the only driver who’s unlucky in Formula 1 as Nando’s career decisions have been haunting him for quite some time. After winning two titles with Renault, none seemed to work for Fernando. He was almost about to win the 2012 driver’s title with Ferrari but again, he had to stay satisfied with the results.

Fernando’s choice of teams has been a topic of discussion among fans and the entire community has heated debates about the same. Fernando Alonso himself commented on the same, claiming that his new team, Aston Martin, is a good sign after some disappointing stints with other teams.

“I would like to achieve my 33rd victory in Formula 1. It would be really nice to do it.”
