The Canadian Open isn’t just another annual hardcourt ATP tournament. This ATP tournament, the third oldest in the world, was founded right after the establishment of Wimbledon and the US Open in 1881. From then on, the Canadian Open has been hosting generations of tennis players and fans for 142 years!
Currently, the IGA stadium is hosting fine athletes, and a few of the top-most men and women of the tennis world are competing for their prestigious Rogers Cup. With the upcoming US Open Grand Slam, the marvelous next generation of tennis stars are displaying their best performances on the prestigious Canadian Open courts.
Carlos Alcaraz beats Ben Shelton
Ben Shelton is one of the budding American tennis icons. Just a couple of months back, he reached the top 35 in the world and is slowly carving himself to be one of the best players out there. After defeating Spanish professional Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the opening round, another young Spaniard became a snag.
In the next round, Ben Shelton was up against none other than the formidable Carlos Alcaraz. The two 20-year-olds battled for two straight sets as Carlitos edged his opponent out. The 2023 Wimbledon champion claimed victory in straight 6-3, 7-6 sets.
Carlos Alcaraz has been in the tennis spotlight since his second Grand Slam win, and given the finesse and tennis brilliance of this youngster, his opponents will have to be perfect to beat him.

Marcos Giron stuns Holger Rune
On the other hand, the world number 6 Holger Rune had to row out after an unexpected loss against the American star, Marcos Giron. While Holger Rune has been rising to the top at a very young age, the performance of the 30-year-old American star was unbelievable. Marcos Giron has not had a great career breakthrough just yet but considering his sudden development in this tournament, he might need to be looked out for.
In this match, Marcos Giron battled Holger Rune and won in 3 sets (6-2, 4-6, 6-3). It is also notable that this isn’t the first time Marcos Giron has taken the win against the Danish stunner. In last year’s Wimbledon opening round as well, Marcos Giron took the win in straight three sets!

Before tonight, Marcos was 1-16 against top 10 players.
Tough loss for Holger, but Marcos is such a hard worker.
