The Gypsy King recently shared the fight purse for the bout and it did not go unnoticed by the boxing community. Many shared negative remarks about the fight purse and even compared it to lower than that of crossover boxers. Interestingly, his younger brother Tommy Fury is a crossover boxer.

Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou competed in a highly anticipated boxing bout in Riyadh billed as the ‘Battle of the Baddest’. Against all expectations, Ngannou went the full 10 rounds with Fury and even managed to score a knockdown in the third round. When the result was announced, Fury scraped via split decision much to the dismay of many.

Francis Ngannou, the former UFC heavyweight champion, previously had the PFL’s biggest purse set at $500,000. However, he earned close to $15 million in the fight with Fury and is now positioned to potentially earn even more. The performance even garnered him a top 10 ranking in the WBC’s official rankings.

Tyson Fury made exponentially more than Ngannou for the bout. Fury recently revealed that he made $62 million for the fight which is the equivalent of £50 million. “The Gypsy King” is the lineal boxing champion of the world and has made a significant amount of money on his comeback trail from depression and substance abuse.

Fury’s trilogy fights with Deontay Wilder are as of now the biggest fights in his boxing career. Fury was scheduled to fight unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk on December 23, but the injuries he suffered in the Ngannou fight postponed it to February 2024.

The news of Tyson Fury’s disclosed pay for his bout against Francis Ngannou in the event billed as ‘Battle of the Baddest’ did not go unnoticed by boxing fans. It’s worth noting that Francis Ngannou received significant praise for his performance, while Fury faced criticism.

Ngannou, under the guidance of Mike Tyson, showcased impeccable boxing ability that surprised many. Incidentally, Tyson Fury is named after Mike Tyson by Fury’s father John Fury. The boxing community reacted negatively to the fight purse revealment of Fury. “75% of it goes to the referees”, one fan tweeted on X, formerly Twitter.

Apparently, the referee missed a blatant elbow that Fury landed on Ngannou that would have immediately ended in a victory for the Cameroonian. “Minus the amount he paid for the refs”, another fan seconded the sentiment. It needs to be noted that the elbow landed by Fury has been deemed intentional after reviews by many eminent personalities.

Interstingly, one fan even tweeted, “Jake Paul makes more”. Paul like Fury’s younger half-brother Tommy Fury is a crossover boxer. Paul has fought Tommy Fury and fell short losing his undefeated record. Jake Paul has made a good amount of PPVs in his short boxing career. The tweet was a slight dig at professional athletes who earn less than crossover boxers.
