The 2023 season has not been favorable to the Wild Thing, Nick Kyrgios. While the Aussie tennis icon is already infamous for getting himself into drama and chaos, this year has somehow reached a new level. As he was recovering from an arthroscopic surgery at the beginning of the year, tragedy struck again with a scary house burglary during which the tennis star’s mother was held at gunpoint!
This incident led to further injuries and longer recoveries that halted his mission to win a Grand Slam. Since his first ever major finals last Wimbledon, Nick Kyrgios was confident about winning a Grand Slam soon. However, the streak of unfortunate incidents continued as he announced another withdrawal from Grand Slam this year.
Nick Kyrgios withdraws from the 2023 US Open due to wrist injury
Even though the Aussie icon has not had a big breakthrough yet, his unique tennis finesse has not gone unnoticed. Kyrgios spoke about how he does not have to prepare for the Grand Slams, yet has defeated numerous top players to make it to the Wimbledon finals last year.
In his withdrawal announcement, he wrote: “During my comeback I experienced some pain in my wrist… as a precaution I had it scanned, and it came back showing a torn ligament in my wrist. I tried everything to be able to play, and I am disappointed to say that I just didn’t have enough time to manage it before Wimbledon.”
The Aussie icon was expected to recover and come back to play in the US Open after his performance in the quarterfinals last year. However, he announced that the wrist injury is lingering, therefore pulled out of the US Open 2023.

Nick Kyrgios missed all four Grand Slams in 2023
At the beginning of the 2023 season, Nick Kyrgios pulled out of his home tournament, the Australian Open. He suffered a tear in his knee which led to the cyst growing inside his knee and had to undergo arthroscopic surgery for the same. During the recovery, he was preparing for the French Open. Just a month before the event, the Box Office injured his left foot during a burglary that lost him his Tesla.
Following this he missed the Wimbledon and the US Open due to the wrist injury. His withdrawal from the US Open has some fans speculating about his retirement as well.
