WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle’s issues with painkillers and alcohol addiction are known to most WWE fans. He mentioned this dark phase of his life several times during his interviews outside of the WWE. Fortunately, after a long struggle, the Olympic gold medalist was able to recover from the health issues that compelled him to take excessive painkillers.
However, during a recent interview, Kurt Angle revealed how he was able to get out of addiction and also appreciated his wife’s contribution to his recovery.

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle recently appeared on an episode of the “True Geordie” podcast and gave all credit to his wife Giovanna for saving him from several problematic situations throughout the years. He also revealed that his wife helped him quit his habit of taking excessive amounts of painkillers, as well as during his struggles with alcohol.
“I lost my reputation and everything I worked for. I was at the lowest point of my life. I called my wife from jail after my fourth DUI, and my wife said, ‘I can’t do this anymore. You either go to rehab or I’m taking the kids and I’m leaving. I thought, ‘Wow. I don’t want to lose my wife and my kids. Not over drugs. Not over alcohol.’ So I ended up going to rehab,” said Kurt Angle.
The Olympic Gold Medalist also revealed that he didn’t go to rehab to get out of his alcohol addiction until his wife convinced him to quit drinking. Angle said that quitting alcohol was very tough for him, as he felt miserable without drinking as usual. However, with the help of his wife, Kurt Angle is now 13 years sober and he is grateful for it.
Kurt Angle said, “I was always lying to her and that’s what an addict does. He never tells the truth, he always lies. My wife was so strong for me when I couldn’t be strong for myself and she kept the family together and to this day, I owe her my life,” Angle said. “I owe her everything. Because she was able to keep the family together while I was being a screwup. And that means more to me than anything.”
