Ryback places risky wager over CM Punk’s WWE return: “I will officially retire from pro wrestling”

Ever since WWE announced that Survivor Series WarGames 2023 is going to be held in Allstate Arena in Chicago, rumors of CM Punk’s return to WWE have gained momentum as it’s his hometown. WWE has denied his return several times, but still, the Second City Saint has been teasing the fans with hints of his return to the Stamford-based promotion.

However, the rumors are looking more believable, as another former WWE superstar, Ryback, chose to react to them and put his whole career at stake.

Ryback bets career over CM Punk’s potential return

Ryback, a former WWE superstar, was known for his aggressive and dominant presence on the main roster of WWE. However, his ego-driven personality caused his fame to fade, resulting in many superstars avoiding him and ultimately leading to his exit from WWE.

Ryback has again made headlines with his outrageous statements in a recent tweet where he declared that he will retire from pro wrestling if CM Punks returns to WWE. He wrote, “If @CMPunk returns tomorrow, I will officially retire from pro wrestling.”

It is to be noted that Ryback and Punk have a dark history from their early days of wrestling inside the WWE ring. The aggressive superstar has always been hateful when it came to any topic related to the Second City Saint. Punk also hated Ryback because he got an injury because of Ryback’s negligence.

Now, if CM Punk returns to WWE at tonight’s Survivor Series WarGames 2023, then it will be a brutal blow to the pride of Ryback, as he has bet his whole wrestling career on this.

WWE’s stand over CM Punk’s return

In the last few months, there have been several speculations over CM Punk’s return to WWE. The Second City Saint has been a free agent since August, when he was terminated from the All Elite Wrestling promotion.

According to earlier reports, Punk allegedly contacted the WWE recruitment team in hopes of returning to the company. But he reportedly faced rejection from WWE CCO Triple H, Vince McMahon, and CEO Nick Khan. However, fans were skeptical of this news, as they held onto hope for Punk’s potential return to the Survivor Series WarGames on November 25. Regrettably, it seems highly unlikely that he will make a comeback for this particular pay-per-view event in WWE.

There is still hope for CM Punk’s return to WWE, as the door is not completely closed yet. According to Dave Meltzer’s latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE may consider bringing back Punk to their company if there is sufficient fan demand, despite the existing negativity surrounding him.

“While every creative head has their plan, this creative side is not looking at being combative with the audience like Vince McMahon often was.” wrote Dave Meltzer. Only time will tell if the Second City Saint will make an appearance at Survivor Series WarGames 2023.
