When you think of a “dual-threat” quarterback in the NFL, the name that immediately comes to mind is none other than Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens. Despite facing uncertainties in the offseason regarding his contract extension with the Ravens, Jackson has consistently lived up to the expectations of his fans, maintaining his status as a true dual-threat quarterback.
In Week 12, Lamar Jackson’s performance helped the Ravens win their division and finish 9-3. Despite this victory, the quarterback was distracted by his teammate Zay Flowers’ celebration.
Lamar Jackson reacts to Zay Flowers’ TD celebration
During the Baltimore Ravens’ 20-10 triumph against their rivals, the Cleveland Browns, wide receiver Zay Flowers shone as the standout player, scoring both of the team’s touchdowns. However, it wasn’t only his ability to score that captured the interest of fans and teammates; it was also his distinctive touchdown celebrations that brought an extra level of excitement to the game.
Flowers kicked off his celebration antics with a memorable moment in the second quarter, connecting with quarterback Lamar Jackson for a 3-yard touchdown. After the successful play, Flowers marked the occasion by tossing the football over his head, mimicking the act of a bride throwing a bouquet at a wedding.
Jackson, who was on the receiving end, acknowledged that the theme perplexed him in spite of his efforts to introduce creativity into the celebration.
In the postgame press conference, Jackson candidly labeled Flowers’ first celebration as the “worst” he had ever witnessed, expressing his confusion during the moment.
“The first one was horrible. I told him. I didn’t know what was going on. I was just standing there like, ‘alright.’ … When I saw what happened, I was like, ‘that was a–.’ … That was the worst celebration I’ve ever seen.”
Despite the criticism, Flowers remained undeterred and managed to redeem himself later in the game. As Flowers found the end zone once again, he showcased his scoring ability and proved pivotal in securing the Ravens’ victory.
This time around, he switched up his celebration style, taking inspiration from soccer icon Cristiano Ronaldo’s signature goal celebration.
Lamar Jackson breaks Michael Vick’s record
In a Sunday night football showdown against the Los Angeles Chargers, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson once again showcased why he is considered one of the best dual-threats in NFL history. The electrifying moment came in the form of an eight-yard rush, securing the Ravens’ victory.
This impressive run not only contributed to the win but also solidified Jackson’s position in the record books. He surpassed the legendary Michael Vick’s 5,000-yard rushing mark, achieving the milestone in the fewest number of games ever needed by a quarterback, per Marca.
With coordinator Todd Monken leading the way, Jackson has comfortably adapted to Baltimore’s new offensive scheme. During Week 12, he had a completion rate of 56.3% with 18 completions out of 32 attempts, resulting in 177 passing yards and a touchdown. Furthermore, he made an additional 11 rushes for 39 yards, making a significant contribution to the team’s overall success.
While opinions may differ, with Myles Garrett favoring Joe Burrow over Jackson, the Ravens’ quarterback is undeniably making a strong case for the MVP title.
With Burrow sidelined due to injury, Jackson’s consistent performances and record-breaking achievements have placed him at the forefront of the MVP race, showcasing his impact on the Ravens’ success this season.
