John Fury claims Tyson Tyson needs more time to face Oleksandr Usyk
John Fury recently appearance in an exclusive interview with Metro.co.uk via Free Bets UK. John Fury was critical of Tyson Fury whom he believes had declined in his past three fights. For context, Fury’s previous three fights were against Dillian Whyte, Derek Chisora, and Francis Ngannou.
“his last three fights, I have seen a bit of decline. Not a decline in ability but a decline in strength, power and physical condition”, said John Fury. He was not referring to his son’s decline in boxing skills. Instead, he was addressing Tyson’s decrease in strength, power, and physical condition. He attributes this decline in the three factors to the training camp. Moreover, he was also critical of Fury’s trainer.
Furthermore, John Fury believes that it is too soon to fight Oleksandr Usyk in December after the hard-fought bout with Ngannou. “The 17th February is the date they have got to work towards. But in my opinion, Tyson needs a bit more time to get his conditioning right and his weight right”, said John Fury citing his opposition to fighting a craftier boxer in Usyk.

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are undefeated fighters in the heavyweight division of boxing. Fury currently holds the WBC heavyweight title, while the WBA, WBO, and IBF titles are held by Oleksandr Usyk. Usyk was the undisputed champion in the cruiserweight division before moving up in weight to claim the heavyweight title from Anthony Joshua.
Usyk, the Olympic gold medalist in the heavyweight division at the 2012 London Olympics, recently won a controversial victory over Daniel Dubois. Usyk was cage-side when Ngannou fought Fury in Riyadh. Usyk faced off with Fury after the bout announcement of their plans to fight next.
The fight was first set for December 23 but the brutal fight with Ngannou made the Fury camp to postpone the fight to a later date. The fight is now set for February 17, 2024, at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The fight is billed as Ring of Fire and the fight is poised to crown the first undisputed boxing champion in a long time.
