Ex-tennis star offers game-changing advice to Stefanos Tsitsipas inspired by Roger Federer

Stefanos Tsitsipas, the former World No. 3, was once one of the most exciting youngsters to see on the tennis court. The Greek player has won ten ATP singles titles throughout his career and has featured in two Grand Slam finals – the most recent one being in the 2023 Australian Open final, where he lost against Novak Djokovic, who won his 23rd career Grand Slam with the victory.

Being just 25 years old, Tsitsipas still has a good amount of time ahead of him to achieve great things. Former women’s top 10 player Andrea Petkovic has tipped Tsitsipas to learn from one of the greatest to grace the tennis court – Roger Federer.

Petkovic advises Tsitsipas to take Roger Federer’s approach

Andrea Petkovic, a former German professional tennis player, recently gave an interview to the Tennis Channel in which she discussed a variety of tennis-related topics. Among these was Stefanos Tsitsipas’s deteriorating form throughout the last year.

She wondered what the true reason was behind Tstitsipas’s poor performances, as she said:

“I do feel (Stefanos) Tsitsipas needs a change. I don’t know if in his coaching team or if he just has to give a little bit more power to Mark Philippoussis, who is now back in the team, as I have heard. It’s just that he has stagnated over the last year in his game, and I know that he wants to play well.”

She then went on to praise the devastating forehand Stefanos Tsitsipas has:

“He really has one of the best forehands I have ever seen in my entire life. Not only the way he hits it, how he can generate pace, spin, and rotation, but also how quickly he runs up to the ball when he does have a sure ball, has really never been seen before.”

Andrea then compared Tstsipas’s forehand to Federer’s, and passed on advice to improve in other areas by following how Federer himself did it:

“I think maybe Roger (Federer) can do it the same way. So I really hope that he evolves on the other side of his game. Maybe incorporates the slice a bit more, like Roger used to do, so he gets the time to run around and use his forehand.”

Where is Stefanos Tsitsipas ranked?

The 25-year-old, despite his poor performances, is still ranked in the top 5 of the men’s rankings. Stefanos Tsitsipas currently holds the No. 4 position with 5090 points, between No. 3 Daniil Medvedev, who has 6360 points, and No. 5 Casper Ruud, who is just about 100 points behind Stefanos.

Stefanos reached a career-high ranking of world No. 3 earlier this year after reaching the Australian Open final.
