Today, seven years ago, Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton won the SmackDown Tag Team Championships as a tandem. Their victory was sealed when they prevailed against Heath Slater & Rhyno. This marked the first title triumph for Bray Wyatt in WWE. Unfortunately, Bray Wyatt is no longer with us, and his untimely death shocked the wrestling industry.
This tag team victory was particularly significant as it finally broke Orton’s ten-year championship drought. His previous tag team championship was with WWE Hall of Famer Edge under the name “Rated RKO.” Wrestling News tweeted about that memorable event, and viewers were delighted, expressing sentiments like “Amazing moment.”
Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt became SmackDown Tag Team champions
Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt’s infamous animosity started in 2016 when Wyatt interrupted Orton as he was promoting his battle with Brock Lesnar. They were supposed to fight at Backlash, but Orton’s return to the ring was delayed due to a concussion he sustained at another event.
When Orton came back, he sided with Bray Wyatt and even wrestled in fights for Wyatt. At long last, Orton’s decision to join The Wyatt Family put an end to fan curiosity. They won the SmackDown Tag Team Championship after teaming together to beat Heath Slater and Rhyno.
The win was secured when Orton executed his trademark “RKO Outta Nowhere” on Rhyno during the bout. This marked Orton’s first tag team championship in a decade; his last title was with Edge in the tag team “Rated RKO.” Up to this point, Orton had never won a tag team championship despite being a member of esteemed groups like The Evolution and The Legacy.
Who is current WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions?
Wrestlers were divided into two teams during the 2002–2011 brand split by WWE: SmackDown and Raw. Since its inception in 2002, the WWE Tag Team title has served as SmackDown’s men’s global tag team title. Once the SmackDown Tag Team Championship was created in 2016, an exciting tag team competition ensued.
After winning the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Titles at Payback, Finn Balor and Damian Priest are the current champions. Dominik Mysterio, Rhea Ripley, and JD McDonagh all pitched in to assist them in winning a wild street brawl.
Owens and Zayn paid homage to Terry Funk during the bout by wearing kendo sticks and even appearing in hockey uniforms while brandishing sticks. Fans chanted “Holy shit” after Owens’ amazing Senton performance from beyond the barriers.
Balor was able to pin Sami Zayn thanks to Dominik Mysterio’s briefcase shot. Balor and Priest swiftly reclaimed the championship, which they held for over 90 days, even though they briefly lost it at Fastlane to Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso.
Now that the Viper is back in WWE, who do you think he and Cody Rhodes may team up with in the future as a tag team? Their connection is strong enough after they won Survivor Series WarGames. Share your opinion in the comments.
