What caused the death of ex-Seahawks legend Alex Collins? Looking at ex-NFL RB’s early demise at age 28

The Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens lost one of their former running back Alex Collins on Sunday evening in Florida. The veteran star bid adieu to the NFL years ago, but his notion on the contribution of the footwork aspect of Irish dancing to his preparation for the football competition had been a topic of major discussion during his tenure in the league.

Collins’ NFL career wasn’t much notable, albeit his performance in college at Arkansas gained him a lot of fame as he recorded over 1,000 rushing yards in all three of his seasons. He played for the Memphis Showboats of the USFL this year after putting an end to his national football career.

What caused Alex Collins’ death?

According to a police statement collected by sports radio host Andy Slater, Collins was traveling eastbound in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida in a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle. He was trying to make a left turn and stuck a woman in a 2002 Chevy while the woman too proceeded to turn left to travel. It caused his motorcycle to struck to the rear passenger side window of the Chevrolet before coming to a final rest inside the car. The ex-NFL star was pronounced dead at the spot.

The Seahawks released a statement on Monday night via the footballer’s family.

“Alex was cherished by his family and friends as well as supporters from all around the world. All who truly know him can attest to his drive, determination, and larger-than-life personality. We kindly request your thoughts and prayers for our family during this difficult time.”

The Ravens also announced the heartbreaking news in a statement and mourned for their former star.

“With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Alex Collins.”

Russell Wilson, a teammate of Collins in Seattle, and Robert Griffin III, a teammate of him on the Ravens mourned for their deceased teammate as well. The tragic accident is currently under investigation by detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Alex Collins’ NFL career highlights

The RB later headed to the Ravens to spend the next two years with them and appeared in 25 games while starting 22 of them. He recorded 973 rushing yards for Baltimore in 2017 and amassed a total of 1,384 rushing yards along with 13 touchdowns.

However, the 28-year-old was waived by the franchise in 2019 when he was arrested due to a car crash. Baltimore police reportedly found a handgun alongside five ounces of marijuana in his car following the incident. He later came back to Seahawks to play the final two years of his career in the NFL and played his last match in the league during the 2021 season.

The NFL community rallied to express their consolation for Collins‘ family and friends. We mourn the sudden demise of the promising star.
