Shaquille O’Neal backs himself against Yao Ming, Rudy Gobert
The official Instagram account of the NBA on ESPN posted a photo to have an engaging session with their followers. The post featured a photo of former NBA player and Rockets star Yao Ming, active Timberwolves star Rudy Gobert, and Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal. It posed a question to the followers, asking, “Who would make a three-pointer first?”
Shaq’s response to the post amused many fans, as he boldly commented, “me,” proclaiming himself as the person who would make a three-pointer first. Whether it was Shaq’s competitive spirit or just a humorous response, his comment made it clear that, in his mind, he would make a three-pointer ahead of the other two players mentioned.
Comparing Shaq’s 3-point percentage with Yao, Gobert
Shaquille O’Neal may have declared himself as the one to score a three-pointer first, putting himself ahead of former Rockets player Yao Ming and Timberwolves star Rudy Gobert, but the actual stats do not seem to fall in favor of Shaq. When compared based on career three-point percentage, former Rockets star Yao Ming is more likely to score a three-pointer than both Rudy and Shaq.
Big Shaq has a career three-point percentage of 4.5% while Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert has a career three-point percentage of 5.0%. The former Rockets star Yao Ming leads ahead of both players by a wide margin with a three-point career percentage of 11.1%.
However, if we compare the three players based on their 3-point percentages in their best season, Shaq leads ahead of the two with a 3-point percentage of 25.0%, while Yao Ming and Rudy have 20.3% and 21.4%, respectively.
