Jamie Carragher labels Liverpool’s transfer business as “joke” after Jurgen Klopp potentially misses out on another priority target

Liverpool is currently experiencing Manchester United’s frustration in the previous summer transfer window. It is now established that apart from your shiny status as a ‘big’ club, you still need to play in the Champions League to attract the right players of your choice.

Liverpool’s transfer business has nose-dived since the signing of Alexis McAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai. They have been in the market for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, but both players are reportedly uninterested in a move to Anfield.

Jamie Carragher bashes Liverpool’s transfer business

Liverpool’s transfer business this summer started really great with the signing of McAllister and Szoboszlai, but since then, they have not been able to continue at the pace at which they started.

Liverpool recently pushed for the signing of Moises Caicedo as a reinforcement for their midfield. The club agreed on a deal in principle for the Ecuadorian footballer, hence the deal was almost as good as done, up until Caicedo expressed his reluctance to join the club. The player stated unequivocally that his intentions were only to join Chelsea and not Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Jamie Carragher has been expectedly vocal since the inception of this year’s transfer business. He once applauded Liverpool for their transfer decision after landing McAllister and Szoboszlai. He further edged Liverpool onto the Caicedo deal, saying the £110M price tag on Caicedo was a big price but necessary for Liverpool.

But Jamie had fans worldwide confused when he turned around to criticize Todd Boehly for his ‘outrageous’ bid for Caicedo. In his words, “(£)110M is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for a 21yr old. Boehly has lost his mind yet again.”

Jamie Carragher has not stopped there; he is back, now with a focus on Liverpool, in his scathing criticism. Jamie Carragher bashes Liverpool’s transfer business and tagged it as a ‘joke.’ He continued thus;

“In a pretty difficult place. They need to buy someone in midfield. People know that they’re desperate. They bid for Lavia today for £60 million, even when they refused to pay £50 million four or five days ago. It’s been an absolute mess. It’s a joke.”

Liverpool is still in pursuit of Romeo Lavia

Once again, Jurgen Klopp’s summer business has been thrown into disarray with Romeo Lavia’s deal stalled. It now feels like deja vu as the Moises Caicedo incident plays out once again.

There was already an agreement in principle between Brighton and Liverpool for a record transfer fee of £111m for Moises Caicedo, but at the last minute, Caicedo pulled out of the negotiation, expressing his interest in Chelsea alone. Chelsea went on to sign Caicedo, and Caicedo declared how overjoyed he was to join the club finally.

Liverpool moved on to Lavia. According to Mirror, they reached an agreement with Southampton to purchase Romeo Lavia, with the two clubs settling on a fee worth £ 60 million. But just like Caicedo, Lavia only wants Chelsea.

Liverpool is still looking for a way to land the player. However, they are now considering other options, like Ibrahim Sangare of PSV, to bolster their midfield might.
