Luis Suarez was an established elite forward way before he joined Barcelona. He scored a whopping 111 goals for Ajax before joining Liverpool, where he ended up scoring 82 goals in 133 appearances. However, the best years of his career were with Barcelona, where he played with some of the best players, including Lionel Messi and Neymar.
In one of those seasons, Luis Suarez beat Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to win the Pichichi Trophy, which is awarded to the top scorer of La Liga in a single season. Suarez scored 40 league goals that season, thanks to the help he got from his fellow MSN members, Messi and Neymar.
Luis Suarez credits Lionel Messi and Neymar for helping him win Golden Boot
Luis Suarez has revealed how Lionel Messi and Neymar helped him overtake Cristiano Ronaldo to win the Pichichi Trophy for the 15/16 La Liga season. This was the first time someone other than Ronaldo or Messi would be winning the award, and Suarez revealed how helpful his teammates were in helping him secure the Golden Boot.
“In the second year, the two of them (Lionel Messi and Neymar) helped me get the Golden Boot. I remember that Leo played for Ney, and Ney was in front of the goalkeeper looking to see if I arrived because I was fighting with Cristiano Ronaldo to be the top scorer. Then he was like, ‘Here, do it yourself’. I won, thanks to them. That was the height of companionship,” Suarez revealed.
As per Transefermarkt, Luis Suarez went on to score 195 goals for Barcelona while also registering 113 assists in 283 games. 25 of his total goals for the club came in the UEFA Champions League, where he also provided 22 assists, most of which were for Lionel Messi.
Luis Suarez rumored to reunite with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami
Despite having not played together since 2020, Suarez and Messi remain close friends, and one of the first requests the Argentine made when he joined Inter Miami was to be reunited with Suarez. Sadly, a move couldn’t be worked out despite Suarez’s effort to force a deal.
A few months later, a deal is nearing completion, which is an exciting report for Inter Miami fans and Lionel Messi himself. Luis Suarez also appeared to be bidding farewell to Gremio fans in their last game against Vasco da Gama, where the Uruguayan scored the only goal of the game.
The prospect of a partnership between Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez for Inter Miami is a scary one for the rest of the MLS because of how deadly both players can be in front of goal.
