The Real Madrid and Kylian Mbappe transfer drama is still ongoing. There were rumors that he would again leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer to go to the Spanish capital. But it didn’t happen, and there were new reports that Real had left talks for the player while another club was in the race.
However, there are now rumors that Real will again go for the highly rated player in January and to be sure they don’t suffer like last time, they have a contingency plan this time around.
Madrid eyes Haaland if Mbappe deal falls
Real Madrid are clearly tired of waiting for Kylian Mbappe several times. Back in 2022, he had the opportunity to join them on a free transfer but declined at the last minute. This cost them heavily, with no other players as backup choices. Now that Mbappe is not signing a new contract at PSG, Real has another chance. But this time, they are prepared to make sure they don’t suffer.
According to Spanish media outlet AS, Real Madrid has given Mbappe an ultimatum. He will be offered a contract as soon as the transfer window opens, given a deadline of January 15 to decide whether he wants to sign for Real or not, and made to sign a guarantee.
If he decides not to come to Madrid, then they will go for another superstar signing, and that is Manchester City’s elite striker, Erling Haaland. Los Blancos heavily appreciate the player and believe he will solve their striker problem.
They believe that Jude Bellingham can help lure the player away from England and that there are certain release clauses in his contract there. However, City will not want to let their star player leave easily and they are already working to provide him with a new contract.
PSG’s tactical move to fend off Real Madrid for Kylian Mbappe
PSG are also not happy about Mbappe potentially leaving them this summer, and that too on a free transfer. His contract ends in June 2024, and he is refusing to extend it currently. The Frenchman is their driving force, scoring 15 goals already in Ligue 1. The club, therefore, will do anything to keep him in France and has already decided how to do so.
The club will try to propose to him two things. One is that they will allow him to join the France squad for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. This will be hugely appealing to the French captain, who has already spoken about it publicly. This will boost his image in his home country and could be an important factor, even though PSG will miss out on him for a while.
Another is the prospect of ending up as the top scorer in Ligue 1 history. Mbappe is already the top scorer of all time for PSG and has 179 goals in Ligue 1. If he wants to break the current record of 299 goals held by Delio Onnis, considering he is an ambitious player, he would have to stay in France for some more years.
PSG would also hope to advance from the UCL group stages and obviously give him a bigger salary than now. These will also help in making the prodigal player of France stay at PSG. It is up to Mbappe now whether he wants to stay or go to Real Madrid.
