Chelsea Transfer Report: Romeo Lavia from Southampton confirmed for £58M, outbid EPL rivals Liverpool for the midfielder

Romeo Lavia is among the hottest youngsters in the Premier League, so it’s no surprise that almost every club wants a piece of him. Chelsea and Liverpool have gone head-to-head for the young Belgian international, and one of them reached an agreement with Southampton for the transfer of the former Manchester City academy player.

The Premier League is already home to some of the world’s best players, making it one of the most competitive leagues in the world. Most players jump at the opportunity to test themselves in the Premier League, with Chelsea benefitting the most from this in the past three transfer windows.

Chelsea reportedly agree to sign Romeo Lavia for £58M add-ons included

Chelsea continue their spending spree this summer as they have for the past three windows after agreeing a deal with Southampton to bring Romeo Lavia to Stamford Bridge. The Saints have been holding out for a premier fee for a player they signed a little over a year ago from Manchester City for £12 million. According to Fabrizio Romano, the fee agreed with Chelsea is in the region of £58 million, including add-ons.

This will make Lavia Chelsea’s second signing in three days after the Blues unveiled their new signing Moises Caicedo from Brighton on Monday for a British record transfer fee of £115 million. Caicedo’s transfer to Chelsea is one of the most dramatic deals in recent times. Liverpool had initially agreed a deal with Southampton before Caicedo held on for Chelsea to match the deal because he had his heart set on the London club.

Chelsea have now broken the British transfer record in two consecutive transfer windows after paying £106 million for Enzo Fernandes in January to bring the Argentine youngster to England.

Romeo Lavia felt Liverpool’s second choice after bizarre transfer strategy

Romeo Lavia has all but signed for Chelsea, making him the second Liverpool target to choose the London club over the Reds. Liverpool are in dire need of midfield reinforcement after losing Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to Saudi clubs this summer. Liverpool’s lack of precision reportedly cost them the Lavia deal, as the 19-year-old felt they would have paid Southampton’s asking price if they needed him badly.

Liverpool sent at least four bids for the 19-year-old, with this transfer tactic getting criticism from Jamie Carragher. Liverpool must look elsewhere and employ a more precise tactic to complete any deal for their targets.
