Julian Edelman had the opportunity to closely observe the performances of the league’s top two quarterbacks, Tom Brady, and Patrick Mahomes, throughout his time in the NFL.
As opposed to meeting Mahomes when he was just a rookie player, the former NFL receiver joined Brady when Tom was already a proven quarterback. He mentioned his first contact with the Chiefs’ ruling star in a recent event.
Julian Edelman reveals how he met Patrick Mahomes
Mahomes started his NFL journey in 2017 when the then-rookie player used to play as a backup for Alex Smith. Smith was considered a key figure of Kansas City for five seasons and when he left the squad, Pat took his spot and adorned the starter position more than the teams’ expectations.
Julian described his first meeting with Mahomes when he was just a rookie player during his recent visit to “New Heights,” presented by Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce. The two-time MVP was not starting the game at that moment. The former NFL player jokingly remarked that the 27-year-old was then a small child who looked like he enjoyed downing many beers,
“I remember hanging out with Pat once. It was before he was a starter. We were at a Super Bowl. Still Alex’s backup, he was a rookie. He was like a kid, like, a little kid drinking a bunch of beers and sh*t.”
Kelce lifts the lid on Mahomes greatness
Many in the NFL community are aware of Kelce and Pat’s friendship. Kelce is frequently the first to voice his opinion about the two-time Super Bowl champion. Travis stepped up for Pat in reaction to Edelmans’ assertion of his friend and emphasized the Chiefs quarterback’s excellence in both games and practices.
“He will get on guys if you’re not running as a receiver he’ll get on he needs those reps and he seeks how valuable those reps are both in games and practices,” Kelce retorted.
Kelce also emphasized why Mahomes is fantastic. The Chiefs’ receiver acknowledged that despite being arguably one of the greatest in the game and having exceptional athletic ability, the five-time Pro Bowler constantly strives to increase his caliber and ability,
“There’s a reason why he’s great I’ll tell you what mean the guy is as athletic as he is and as good as he at like the improve and he is everything as nerdy as it gets.”
The Chiefs won two Super Bowls in just four seasons owing a lot to Kelce and Patricks’ relentless work ethic, which solidified their spot in the league. Let’s see if they can continue to cling to their friendship while maintaining their form on the field in the future season.
