Alain Prost took his Ferrari 643 for a demo run at the Dubai Autodrome circuit recently, and the 4-time champion displayed his prowess, elegantly maneuvering the car around the track. The vintage Scuderia machine was quick to recognize him as it heeded Prost’s call and provided a good show even after several years.
The 1991 Ferrari 643 made an appearance at the Dubai GP Revival event, where it was expertly driven by none other than Prost himself. The crowd showered him with enthusiastic cheers and appreciation. Alain Prost’s reunion with his Ferrari showcased his enduring passion for Formula 1 and offered a glimpse into his remarkable career in the sport.
One might expect an average person of his age to drive slowly and cautiously, but the Frenchman showed no hesitation during the show run. Once again, he pushed his machine to its limits, thrilling the ecstatic crowd who eagerly awaited the appearance of the F1 legend.
Prost’s history with Ferrari 643
The Ferrari 643 was introduced during the 1991 Formula 1 season as an upgrade to the Ferrari 642. Despite its 730 horsepower, the car proved to be less competitive than its rivals, such as the McLarens and the Williams. Ferrari and Alain Prost faced some challenges during their time together in the car, and unfortunately, it turned out to be Prost’s final season as a Ferrari driver.
Alain Prost exclaimed that he felt like truck driver, in one of his interviews that time. “I’ve never driven such a bad car. Yesterday with a full tank of gas we noticed that the steering locks up completely in big curves, that’s a very serious mechanical problem which has worsened during the season.
“Competing in a Grand Prix in these conditions is very trying, I did not feel like an F1 driver, because a good truck driver with big arm could have done just as well.” Prost’s words weren’t taken lightly by Ferrari and he was fired from the team post the Japanese GP.
